Hurd is a good not a great fighter. If he can commit to his defense and not block punches with his face then he could go further. He has always been lazy with his defense by not moving his head or even using his hands to block punches. Any boxer with a heavy punch who can stick and move in the middleweight division would take him out. He should work his way up the ratings by fighting a few tomato cans so he can work on improving his defense before taking on the big names. Mentally he can't take any more losses in his career.

Pick 'em? Pick what? Hurd's lifeless body off the canvas?

I like Hurd, his style is about as fan-friendly as it gets but the man eats punches like nobody's business. Even as an undefeated champ in his prime he was beginning to slur his words.

At 154lbs his freakish size allowed him to walk his smaller opponents down while taking everything they have and wearing them down over the long haul, kind of like a more offensive-minded Homer Simpson. Up at 160lbs against a puncher like Golovkin that just isn't going to work. In fact, I can't think of a worse style match-up for him. Golovkin might be forty years old but making this fight would be borderline criminal.

Hurd does not appear finished to me. but I tend to be optimistic. Get a win, follow it up with a bigger name before the end of the year, and Hurd is back in business. 160 is not the killers row it was a couple years ago. Hurd has a chance to rebuild quickly.

Or get exposed for the last time. I guess that is there as well.
