"Presently, Golden Boy Promotions, the promotional banner in which Ortiz fights under, are sorting out new dates for their championship showdown."

Sources: Vergil Ortiz Jr.-Eimantas Stanionis bout set for April 29

      January 26, 2023

Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Eimantas Stanionis will meet in a rescheduled welterweight bout on April 29 in Texas, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The 147-pound matchup was set for March 18 but postponed after Stanionis underwent an emergency appendectomy in his native Lithuania earlier this month.

Oritz's promoter, Golden Boy, won the rights to the WBA "regular" welterweight title fight at last month's purse bid with a commitment of $2.3 million and will stream the fight on DAZN.

Golden Boy will kick in additional money to make Ortiz, who is a far bigger star than Stanionis in the U.S., whole. The Lithuanian boxer won the secondary title with a split-decision victory over Radzhab Butaev in April and is entitled to 75% of the winning bid, while Ortiz will earn much more than the $575,000 he's set to make via the purse bid.

The bout shapes up as a coin-flip matchup between two pressure fighters in one of boxing's best weight classes.

Ortiz (19-0, 19 KOs) is rated No. 4 by ESPN at welterweight. The 24-year-old broke through last year with a pair of stoppage wins over Maurice Hooker and Egidijus Kavaliauskas. Ortiz, who fights out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, was set to fight Michael McKinson in March, but it was postponed after Ortiz was hospitalized with rhabdomyolysis.

Rhabdomyolysis is a breakdown of muscle tissue that releases the damaging protein myoglobin into the blood, which can lead to kidney damage. Ortiz went on to score a ninth-round TKO of McKinson in August and will now step way up in class.

Stanionis (14-0, 9 KOs) is ESPN's No. 6 boxer at 147 pounds. He also owns a win over Thomas Dulorme.

Karen can play with Ennis but he won't be able to do that with Ortiz.
Here's the problem with your logic. U assume Ortiz will cut the ring off and **** Karen out with no problem. But Ortiz may not have to chase, OR cut the ring off, because Karen may not run from Ortiz. He may stand right there. And u assume he'll run. Ortiz may not be able to hurt Karen. Karen will see his punches coming. Ortiz isn't some lightning fast dude. u don't have to run from him. U have to run from Boots, or clinch a lot. Its really the only choice. Karen wasn't ******, he was smart. He figured out quick that Boots was gonna hit him with something he didnt see. So he had to run and keep distance at all costs. But against Ortiz, I'm willing to bet he doesn't run so much. Mean Machine didnt run from him, and he had Ortiz wobbly & ready to go. He's not no 2nd coming of Roberto Duran, he's strong and hits hard and thats about it. He does not have an iron chin. He's like Rolly but with much better skills. He's super strong but his chin is not that amazing. Karen can beat his ass, and if Boots hits him on the chin, u can get him a soft pillow, because he's going to take a nice, peaceful nap

It would not be a pleasure for the boxing fans if we go by his last showing.

I think Boots is still legit. I also feel like he has some things to work on. Despite what people are saying, he was cutting off the ring but his footwork was awful and he kept getting himself out of position and doing what Canelo does which is move forward back foot first. That lead to him being out of position and being squared up to get caught clean in between Karen's movement.

You've heard Bozy Ennis essentially saying Boots is not ready for Ortiz and he wants the fight marinated properly. Three years minimum.
Bozy never said anything like that, Boots has said that he would take the Ortiz fight on numerous occasions, and the only response from GBP is crickets.

Don't tell him anything, I've tried to reason with him, but I couldn't get through. So, I've got his crow marinating until after fight night. Any ideas for his side dishes?

In contrast, Ennis got a bunch waiting to be picked, Butaev, Crowley, Kavliauskas... Yet he prefers to sit around and wait.
How is Ortiz sitting around when he's fighting undefeated and high ranked Stations. It Boots that taking easy safe fights. Biits and Bozy all talk they have yet to send GBP an offer. Come fight night it's yet another Karen . He's waiting for Spence to vacate and become an email champion

I'd like to see this fight even if only to see how Ortiz would handle Chukhadzhian in comparison with Jaron Boots. Unfortunately, you still have to count long months before seeing winner of the Stanionis back in the ring. So Karen needs to play the waiting game, just like many fighters these days. Would be an intriguing fight.
