People fail to realize how much pull Oscar has in the biz he made so many connections during his hey day. He has way more connections than Haymon and Arum put together.
Oscar made Stephen espinoza before he ran showtime Espinoza was oscars lawyer. Most ppl don't know that.Comment

Although I've wondered the same myself, the matchmaker position is very much a fixture of the business. BoxRec has Arum, Dibella, and Tom Brown labelled as promoters/matchmakers, but guys like Hearn and Warren are only promoters.Comment

most promoters are not very good matchmakers. Promotion and matchmaking are 2 VERY different skillsets. Arum never makes matches himself, he has Bruce Trampler and Brad Goodman, 2 top notch matchmakers. Guys like that have unique skills, and old school guys like Johnny Bos, Jimmy Waldrop, and countless others. They really know how to develop a fighter........Comment

The matchmaker is how TR has successfully built so much top talent. Bob rarely does something the matchmakers havent said ok on.
Haymon should pick this dude up ASAP.Comment

Just found out that Roberto Diaz is no longer with Golden Boy. Anyone ever find out what happened exactly?

Btw: I have never understood this role at a promotional company. Honestly. Basically a matchmaker is a couch potato. Some guy who sits around all day and watches boxing nonstop. I bet half of the people here at Boxingscene could be better matchmakers than these guys.
Many of these matchmakers have not even laced up a pair of gloves before. Most of them probably cannot wrap their own hands.
This is one of those jobs that you cannot apply for, you just have to know someone who can get you in and agree to pay you for watching boxing matches non-stop, all day to see who matches well against who.
