This reminds me of the time when Garcia/Peterson fought at a 143 catchweight, eventhough Garcia still had his 140lb titles iirc.

I think this is a way for Spence to have his cake and eat it too. He gets to keep his WW belts if he loses, he doesn't give Thurman the opportunity to take the belts from him, and he doesn't have to drain down to 147 for a match-up that he allegedly doesn't want.
