Comments Thread For: Bivol Says He Would Have 'Enough Motivation' For Canelo Rematch at 168: 'I Think I Would Be Ready'

Dmitry Bivol has been mostly blase about defending his light heavyweight title against Canelo Alvarez again, but fighting him at 168 is apparently a different story. In a recent interview, Bivol, the WBA light heavyweight champion from Russia, offered a glimmer of enthusiasm toward the idea of fighting Alvarez at the super middleweight limit, where Alvarez owns all four belts.

Yeah of course Bivol would be motivated for a payday.

But at 168???? Hell nah... That would be horrible for the sport.

Why would it be horrible? You have fighters like Canelo constantly fighting outside his weight comfort to chase greatness. Why can’t Bivol do the same? He’s said multiple times, even before Canelo, he’d have no prob going down to 168 for the right fight.

Canelo has been moving up in weight because he COULD NOT make weight. It’s easier to move up than to lose weight.
That said, per Bivol, he can make weight so being a two-weight champ just adds to his legacy

If Canelo wants the fight @ 175, why are we having this discussion? I could see if Canelo was making the request, but since he's not, why is Eddie asking him about 168? It would be a HUGE accomplishment for his legacy, if he became "Undisputed" at 168!

These dudes talking nonsense about weight, canelo is a legit 4 div champ nobody cant take that away from him and as far as bivol hes an elite fighter as well so he can cut those 7 pounds w/ out problem thats why himself admits its real possibility plus he wouldn't be jeopardizing a 175 clash against beterbiev if somehow loses rematch with ginger at 168 whilst having not one but two undisputed shots at different division not mentioning a couple juicy paychecks. It is actually more than convenient for the russian.

Perfect scenario for Bivol would be that he beats Canelo at 168 and then Bertebiev at 175. That way he can be a two weight undisputed champ.

Crawford can have a shot to be undisputed in two weights and may a shot to undisputed to a 3rd weight but looks like he talks more than he actually is willing to do.

It'd be hard to not be motivated to challenge an opponent Bivol handled decisively for undisputed championship gold. Can he make the SMW limit safely and not be debilitated by it is the question.

Dropping down in weight never seems to work unless the fighter had just gone up momentarily and returned back to his weight. Bivol is clearly a 175 pounder by now, this could be a disaster.
