You'll notice the line under the prize announcements where I say 'there could be some ongoing discussion'?

Well more or less I messaged BPP to discuss raising the prizes without any detail - just in principle - and he came back with the offer I posted above, I replied with a PM thanking him but also suggesting we could maybe look at a more frequent but lower prize split but also acknowledged that there was no way to be sure if that'd actually be a better way of increasing engagement - or reducing attrition (which is after all the main reason they'd want to increase the prize fund). So far I've not had a reply.

I went ahead and posted this thread anyway because I was hoping the annoiuncement of the increased prizes might draw in a few extra players for Pick Em #1.

i admit that those suggesting 2 or even 3 sessions are in the minority here. It's an unknown what works or not. Maybe just leave it as a year comp this year? If there is still attrition at the end of this year then maybe 2 x 6 months next year? though seems like a long time to wait. Had the 1st prize in all previous years been $300? My way of thinking is if you're not entering for £300 then an extra $100 is probably not going to engage you - as you rightly point out its for the banter and enjoyment mostly -and the challenge.
My own experience was thatI posted on here since 2014 I think but I rarely came to the forums so I didn't even know of its existence until last year. There are probably similar posters.
When featured writers like Cliff Rold or Lyle Fitzsimmons make their weekly posts the post sits as the headline article on the front page - impossible to miss for any halfway regular reader - if the post announcing this competition could take that position for a couple of days I'm sure there would be some additional engagement?

We'll see which way BigPoppa jumps but I think that's most likely for this year. And bear in mind I got zero direct control - I'm just another poster like anyone else... most I can do is share my ideas and make suggestions.

In some ways it'd be super cool if the site promoted it further but there's also a weird kinda ethical angle that I'm having to wrap my head around, cos in a way the more the site becomes directly involved the more I - in effect - become a de facto unpaid employee. I have kinda made my peace witth it cos I do find it rewarding in less material ways, but if the Pick Em (and the 100+ hours I put in each year) were to suddenly start bringing in significant extra traffic and users to the site (and thus revenue) I guess I'd have to do some hard thinking about the principle of the thing.

Yeah.. przes have been set at 300/150/50 since the site agreed to start offering em. This is the first increase. I think the first prizes were given out in 2019 as I recall... I PMd BPP after a bunch of beers over Xmas / New Year 2018 if I remember right - the first year after I took over from Brobob and pitched the idea of introducing prizes as a way to increase uptake and extolling the virtues of the Pick Em etc... wasn't actually expecting him to go for it but I thought why not try?

Your doing great Koba and many thanks for what you do - I wish I had more community spirit in practice rather than in thought - but it's enough of a challenge to keep my own chariot on the track (am meaning to contribute a small amount to your youth project though)

Nice touch. Now, all I have to do is remember to put the fighter's name down that I pick!

i know, deep down in my heart, that you intended to pick Garcia KO MID, so it would have been zero points in any case

That's a reasonable argument for not awarding me any points, but you are incorrect sir!

Honestly speaking , I’d rather win memorabilia
Signed gloves , posters that rare to come by , robes , shorts
T-shirt’s that the boxers make for their teams for the night of the fight
Ffs , CBS owns the site and won’t be hurting to much
