For what? It's over. Avoided and black listed in his prime, for beating Nonito Donaire. WBA had a big hand to play in that. Considering there was no defense from Arum (they were big mad) for him winning that fight. The WBA and Haymon were so happy to have Leo avoid an embarrassing defeat and still get a belt. Same for Frampton. Rigo then mixed with promoters and managers who had little to no power to elevate him.

Actually, Arum is underrated in how much he did for Rigo. First, he got him the second biggest payday of his life against Donaire and then later on he got him the biggest payday of his life against Loma after Rigo trashed Loma on social media. Those two fights made Rigo more money than he had earned in all his combined fights. Rigo had a pretty good career although I think if he had been a bit more aggressive with a touch of Whitaker to his game, I think he would have earned more. He could have used his power more. But it was sad to see how he was burned by fire. Thankfully his eyes didn't get torched and leave him blind for life.

I agree. Arum did all he could for Rigo. Rigondeaux didn’t hold up his end. I think there’s something psychologically wrong with Guillermo. It’s almost like he intentionally wanted his career to be crap. So much talent. So much ability. Such a waste.

I hope he can get a few last paydays. All he has known is boxing and I hope he has some investments like his compadre Frank Sanchez who owns a restaurant in Miami so that he can have a steady income after boxing. Some boxers like Rigo spend their whole lives in boxing and people just kick them to the curb. Hopefully he never has to be concerned where his next meal is coming from.

One of the reasons I think Rigo is a bit touched in the head: he had a golden opportunity to make good money at what he does best, but he consistently underperformed. It was a choice. Guillermo was a special talent and he knew it — everybody knew it. Because of the very fact Rigo is still fighting at his age, I don’t think he has anything lined up. If he’s lucky he’ll be able to find work as a coach or trainer. God be with him.
