Golovkin refused to leave 160 as he feasted on several questionable challengers and naturally smaller men. Remember how keen he was to call out Mayweather and Pacquiao? The whole time his supporters rabidly defended his not fighting Ward at a legit 168 or rising to meet any real challenge above him. They claimed he didn’t need to go up to prove anything. They supported his wanting big paydays with smaller guys as a smart career move. When it was familiar dance partner Canelo, it was suddenly OK to go up to 168. Why can’t he go for the strap against Benavides? Now Charlo is roasted by some for essentially doing the very same thing Golovkin did. Can’t have it both ways. If it was accepted with Golovkin , then it’s fine for Charlo. By the way, I’m in no way a fan of either Charlo brother, just not a big fan of hypocrisy either.

Charlo is in a fantastic position that very few have. He has the chance to become the next superstar but he has to roll the dice.

Being undisputed is a massive and deserved achievement but there just aren't the big fights at LMW.

He could fight Crawford but why not go for the WBO MW belt......and if he wins go up again to become Canelos mandatory.

I don't think the Charlos are gonna become superstars, that ship has sailed. They've fought on PPV once and it seems like that experiment failed because SHO never put them on PPV again. Jermell has proved his mettle and is a worthy undisputed champion, but he's not gonna move up to 160/168 partially because Jermall is in the way. Jermell should stay at 154 if he can and carve out the best career possible. He already has a year worth of opponents lined up: Tszyu, Fundora, and maybe Crawford.

Nothing wrong with staying in a division and owning it. Would prefer it was a better division that 154 but it is what it is. Spence, crawford, boots and ortiz will all be there sooner or later.
