Comments Thread For: Roy Jones Feels Strongly That He's Got A lot To Offer To Anthony Joshua as a Trainer

Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. - who now trains fighters such as Chris Eubank Jr. - believes that he's got has a lot to offer as a coach to British superstar Anthony Joshua. Last year, Joshua parted ways with longtime trainer Robert McCracken after suffering a twelve round decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

The most logical explanation is that Jones was a freak of nature. When you were as insanely talented as he was, anyone else would appear unteachable by comparison.

It's the normal soap opera with Joshua . Hearn always promotes this but then one of the many excuses for not taking the massive money fight with Fury and the title was that , according to Hearn it was 'hard being Anthony Joshua' with all the media attention and scrutiny , everything Hearn created ! but then it was no good and he needed a rest. Maybe he does or maybe he needs two decent fights as Roy says I would like to know who Roy has in mind for these.

Don't like James but possibly like him as a trainer for DJ

Jermell - timid boxer under Shields
          AJ - fighting timid

Jermell - Hyper-aggressive boxer puncher under James
Spence - Aggressive punch placement plotter under James

Both have above avg jabs and defense under James.\

AJ needs to get his aggression back and an above avg HW jab

Seems to be a good fight

Garcia and Fernandez are trash, esp Garcia. AJ hiring Garcia was like Ward hiring Unable Sanchez. You don't put a sucker in your corner who has talked trash about you

IMHO, AJ needs a guy with little exposure.
            Zero ego.
No one chasing face time or press cons.
            Someone like Guerino "Goody" Petronelli

poor move in my opinion, cant see Joshua firing off combinations. Really do think AJ is finished as in beating any top boys that's why it will be Whyte next and sold as a domestic dust up.

How does an old Superman who has lost his powers, train a human to fight?

RJJ was amazing, great, knows his boxing, can explain what is going on in a fight in laymen’s terms. He is truly a boxing expert.

But RJJ could throw a left hook and KO his opponent, when the right punch to throw at that moment was maybe a jab, or a right hand, or do a side step. But RJJ could get away with doing whatever he wanted to do.

So how do you forget about your actual experiences and what YOU would do in a certain situation, and get away with any mistake you make, and tell a guy with way lesser reflexes, slower handspeed, slower footwork, to do the things you were able to do?

Roy really wants that trainer gig with Joshua.

Can't blame him, sure it pays well. Roy was one of the best ever. Certainly athletically and with the tricks, I've never seen anyone else do what he did.

His boxing fundamentals were perhaps not the finest, because when his athleticism went, it got harder. Bernard Hopkins still did well late into his 40's, because he had the basics so well as a foundation, plus clever tactics from experience.
