An interesting heavyweight fight scheduled for January 14 was scrapped Wednesday. Quebec-based promoter Yvon Michel announced on Twitter that the contender he represents, Oscar Rivas, suffered an eye injury while sparring recently. On the advice of his doctor, Rivas withdrew from his 10-round fight against Efe Ajagba, which was scheduled for January 14 in Verona, New York.

Too bad it was a good match up. I few fights are already falling or fell apart, hopefully that won't be the trend in 2023.

Oscar Rivas had several retina surgeries in the past and he couldn't even pass an eye exam years ago when he was supposed to fight Gerald Washington.

Not a good sign. Best of luck to him.

Mahkmadov is coming off a 1 round fight where he hardly broke a sweat. That was less than a week ago, he's already ready.

        - just saying

Rivas is hard to judge. I thought he looked good vs whyte even got a KD. But looked terrible vs roziki. Ajagba would’ve knocked him out

It was a heavyweight fight? Silly me, I just assumed Rivas was defending his title.

First thing I thought of when read eye injury… Not sure the risk is worth taking. He should consider retirement.

I think this guy is done. Eye injury is no joke.

They should make Makhmudov - Ajagba.
