  • Comments Thread For: Frank Martin Deepens The Lightweight Pool: Weekend Afterthoughts

It was the kind of fight fans say they want more of. It was the kind of performance boxing can never get enough of. Placed in a high pressure, high attention situation, lightweight Frank Martin kept cool and delivered a statement. Perceived by some as a 50-50 fight going in, Martin arguably pitched a shutout against Michel Rivera. A clash of young undefeated talents on the rise gave us a genuine contender in a loaded field.

"Martin said the name Rolly Romero after the fight. It would be a smart move, allowing comparison with Davis’s win over Romero in 2022. Romero is limited, but he talks a good game and could increase the spotlight for Martin in a fight where Martin would have to be heavily favored. From a competitive standpoint, a fight with another Davis foe in Isaac Cruz would be a stiffer test and a great television fight. "

That's the fight (Pitbull Cruz) to make, plus Rolly says he's moving to 140:

Frank Martin Lacks Confidence To Call Out Top Fighters Says Rolly Romero

“Michel Rivera is weight drained. He can’t be at that weight no more. You could tell from the first round,” said Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero to Fighthype, reacting to Frank Martin’s win over Michel Rivera on Saturday night.

“The mother f***er was breathing hard from the first round. He just looks like that right now. He’s a big dude. He was fighting at 144, 148. He’s a big dude.

“He looked good,” said Rolly when asked his view about Frank Martin. “If he had power, he would have stopped Michel. Michel is already chinny.

“He’s snappy, but his power isn’t like. If he had power, he would have stopped Michel. I’m not a lightweight no more. They’re trying to say this s**t because I’m moving up.

I wish people would stop with the not ready now for Tank or Haney. He is. Quit protecting these fighters. Feed them a guy who isn't all hype, that could legitimately kick their ass, and deserves the shot since he took the risks and passed with flying colors.

Oscar De La Hoya thinks Ryan Garcia making mistake bypassing tune-up before facing Gervonta Davis

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya chats with Fight Hype and talks about his impression about Ryan Garcia declaring he wants to go right towards a fight with Gervonta Davis, no longer being interested in an interim tune-up bout first. Check out some of what De La Hoya had to say on the subject below.

De La Hoya on Ryan Garcia wanting to skip a tune-up fight and go straight into fight with Gervonta Davis

“We did see what Ryan posted and, you know, all we do is have to respect it. All we do is respect his decision and I understand Ryan’s frustration, and I understand the people’s frustrations — the people want to see Ryan vs Tank. That is it.

“So, look, Tank is gonna have a tune-up fight. His tools are gonna be very sharp for when he faces Ryan Garcia in April. Ryan decided to bypass the tune-up and go straight to Tank. I strongly feel it’s a big mistake but, you know, we all have to wish him the very best and stay in shape, stay in the gym, continue training, sparring, stay focused and wait for that big day.”

On Gervonta Davis potentially risking the Ryan Garcia fight in his upcoming fight against Hector Garcia

“That’s the risk you have to take and you have to give it up to Tank Davis. He’s confident in his abilities, he has a plan, he knows what he wants to do. And I don’t think he’s calling it a tune-up, I think we’re all calling it a tune-up because it’s not Ryan Garcia. But, yeah, it’s a dangerous fight, it’s a fight that can possibly spoil the big plans we have for Ryan and Tank in April but we’re crossing our fingers.”

He's already beaten better fighters than Rolly ever has including a convincing win over Martinez. Rolly received a gift decision against Martinez.

Honestly, Martin should've never even mentioned Rolly's name! He should focus on Tank and Pitbull, no one else! Shakur said he wants Martin, and Spence should call him about that!

I don't understand what the Rolly hoorah was about. He has defects, bad habits? That macho thing, where he sticks his head in the lions mouth.
