Lopez was a clear winner but not by a huge margin. He was the effective aggressor, controlled the space, threw more punches and landed more but had to chase Martin all night long. Martin is a spoiler, period. No one is going to look good against him. The knockdown is unfortunate. Teo was leaning in and forward and in that off-balance position, got clipped.

Incidentally, I was shocked Martin beat Mikey. That was almost akin to Bivol beating Canelo and then going on to bearing Ramirez. These tricky, skilful boxer-types are always a handful except Martin doesn’t have Bivol’s work rate/punch output.

That said, while a fan of Lopez, I am not sure he dominates at this weight class.
I would have had no problem with a draw, but I thought Martin controlled more of the action in more of the rounds.i wouldn't call it a robbery. However, the judging was obviously biased on an Arum card.

    • Looks like i was correct in assuming Martin would be too much for Lopez. Martin really should of stepped on the gas and maybe he might of just won it. Lost money on Martin but respect to Lopez for hanging in there.

      • Honestly thought it was a bit of a gift but I'm not too mad. The fight was close enough and Martin doesn't fight a style that demands rounds. I think he won but I can see the judges scoring otherwise. No controversy here. Martin needed to take the win as the B-Side and he simply didn't do enough to convincingly do it.

I'm not crying robbery, because all close fights aren't robberies, but PLEASE don't ever say that bold part again. That's the dumbest shyt I've ever heard. compubox is a person counting what they think are punches landed. That has NEVER been accurate.

          • Sandor Martin is very crafty, he'd make anybody look bad with his style and skills. It's one of those win this one and look good the next time. One thing is clear though about Teo, he doesn't like fighting counterpunchers, he's more comfortable against fighters who bring the fight to him, his offensive tools are a bit limited and he doesn't look natural to me trying to cut off the ring, set traps and land shots.

            • It seems that Lopez is not the dominant force he thought he'd be at this weight.

Perhaps he hit his ceiling in his career when he beat Lomachenko.

              • Teofimo looked horrible in the fight. He should have lost, but was gifted the decision. He is on the decline.

                  I agree, Teofimo looked horrible.

I disagree that he was gifted a decision. While he was again exposed for his lack of skills, I believe Teofimo did enough to win on points. What did Martin really do besides surprise Teofimo here and there? He was not very offensive-minded at all.

I also disagree in that Teofimo is on the decline.

I will say that he is approaching a ceiling on success if he doesn't improve on his skill set. While he has power, he is heavily flawed and will find himself a loser at the elite level if he doesn't make considerable changes.

His biggest changes must come at the training position. He needs to replace his dad. His dad is not good enough. His dad has gotten him as far as he can take Teofimo. Teofimo must now upgrade to a trainer that has the boxing knowledge that can take him to greater heights.

If he doesn't make this change, Teofimo's career will take a down turn..... probably quickly.

Its because his dad doesn't know ****. That's all he can do.
