    Boxing Live or DVR?

I almost always watch boxing live because boxing is the theatre of the unexpected.

The only time I’m really satisfied with DVRing it is if I just absolutely CANNOT get out of my plans or obligations for the night, OR if it is a fight I just really don’t give a shlt about.

My friend who knows the most about boxing that I talk to all the time DVR’a most fights. I must be watching live if:

If a “fan man” flies into the ring or a fighter “Golota” has a mental breakdown and keeps throwing like 10 low blows or if a fighter bites an ear off, I want to be on top of it

If a fighter like Oliver McCall has a mental breakdown and quits I want to be there

If Curtis Harper type fighter leaves the ring b4 the opening bell

Crazy **** can always happen. U never know what will happen in a fight.

Or if a robbery happens like Lara vs PWill.

Or if someone that don’t usually get knocked down (like Trout) gets knocked down by a fighter who isn’t known to be a MURDEROUS puncher (Lara) and then (Trout) gets his ass stomped.

Etc etc if Floyd knocks an undefeated fighter (Hatton) out so good with a punch stepping backwards that he runs his head into the ring post.

Or if one of my fav fighters of all time (Zab Judah), after being knocked out at 140, making a fool of himself, loses a fight against the undisputed Champ at 147, then knocks him unconscious pretty much with a punch that is not his typical KO punch. (Short right hook on the inside).

If a fighter is losing pretty much every single round and gets scared and deliberately commits a very blatant foul trying to hurt his opponent (Victor Ortiz).

Or if a legend get knocked down 3 times in round 1 and gets up to fight on even terms. (Marquez).

Or if an American fighter goes to England and wears out a fighter who believes he’s gods gift to Earth. (SOG vs Froch).

Or if a fighter has won many more rounds than his opponent when rd 12 shows up and his only mission is don’t get KO’d in round 12 and then he gets KO’d in round 12. (Taylor vs Froch). I can go on and on.

What say you guys? Sorry felt like typing a novel.

My Paternal grandmother died the sunday after Trout-Cotto.....the following week we had the funeral, which was Pac-Marquez 4.....missed that ****.

That was back before social media was so intrusive.....now I get updates on my phone from the ESPN app which ruins the results of DVRing.....I'll just watch the fight the following sunday while knowing the result.

Sorry about your loss man. I know the feeling. My mom is pretty much all I have left.

I’m also a news junkie. I want to see things as they develop.

        Boxing is best watched live.

Because it is a experience, especially when you are a supporter of a fighter.

If you want to support fighter, you are there for them LIVE.

Since David Haye's retirement, I am not really a big supporter of any fighter.

So therefore, there have been times when I have watched fights the following day.

The last big match up, I was really captivated by was Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury II & III.

That for me was just about pure competition. I was inspired by the passion to win both fighters displayed during the build up.

I did not really enjoy Joshua vs Usyk II, the build up or even the fight. It took me a awhile of reflection and analysis to understand how good the fight was skill for skill

Joshua vs Usyk was skill for skill a higher level fight than Wilder vs Fury etc.

I have to watch it live. Especially if it’s a meaningful fight.

Live for all the reasons y'all listed already. If something special happened the world will spoil it.

That said, I have no problem with picking up other sports a bit late. I just watched the Overeem/Hari match on youtube today. It was spoiled to death and was still surprising to see. Both guys looked old and I felt like Badr earned an extra round. Knowing AO won by UD based on two KDs in the final round didn't change the shock of how it actually played out. So, I guess if it's entertaining it'll be entertaining either way.

Unfortunately there's not many boxing fans in my town other than the people in my gym and they lean more towards next day recaps and DVR. I like watching it live and chatting with people here.

Nothing like watching it unfold live but the practicalities of staying up late every Saturday for the US fights is too much these days so I usually only stay up for a select few meaningful fights - either fights of guys I'm a particualr fan of or really meaningful unifications or undisputed bouts. Probably only 5 or 6 times a year. Rest of the time it's playing catch-up first thing Sunday morning. Ain't the same buzz though... you can never capture that visceral reaction like live viewing even if you somehow managed to avoid seeing the result before you watch it.

Had major problems with insomnia through to about 2016 / 2017 so it wasn't an issue - stay up Friday right through Sunday a.m sometimes watching fights round the globe but nowadays a night without sleep pretty much wipes me out for the next day.

I love watching boxing live. Back in the day, my dad used to have to listen to the boxing live on the radio in Hawaii and then a month later they would go to the theater to watch to fight on film. I had to go to the NBC arena in Hawaii to watch Hagler vs. Leonard live. There was no parking anywhere for over a mile in downtown Honolulu but I was desperate to see the fight so I parked in a red zone and got my car towed. Luckily, I ran into my uncle at the fight and he gave me a ride and I then had to pay for a ticket and tow and storage fee for my car. What a night that was! My wife and I don't go out on Saturday nights because she knows I love to watch live boxing and read boxing forums.
