Never A Fan Of Floyd, But…

I was watching a few videos dedicated to Mayweather on YouTube yesterday — some about his training, some about his fights — and I came away with a new appreciation. It stands to reason that anyone at the top of their game works like an animal, but it’s another thing to see it broken down. Floyd worked extremely hard, possibly harder than any of his contemporaries. Inspirational, really. Hard to hate on a guy that earned every bit of his success.

All the fighter nowadays are social media fighters, and have their daddy speak for them. Its pathetic.

This guy devin haney is the worst. Him and his daddy whoring himself out in all these videos.

they all want one big money fight, then a cash out

Theres no more guts and glory in boxing. Its over with. At least for americsn fighters.

Fluid is 10% talent, 90% dedication. Zab Judah was clearly more talented fighter.

Despite all the bluster- he was always a gym rat. The flash lifestyle is essentially just a persona, it’s well documented Mayweather lived in the gym always working on his craft.

This was never in doubt. My problem was he gave himself the nickname 'The Best Ever' and his fans called people 'haters' when he was held to those standards.

Hard to quantify talent. But maybe you’re right — Zab might’ve had more natural talent. Judah himself spoke of Floyd’s “craziness” when it came to training. In one of the videos I watched, Zab told stories of how they would work in the gym for 5-6 hours and Mayweather would then go out for a ten mile run. Judah also said that Floyd would call him up at 2 or 3 in the morning and say, “Let’s go out for a run.” I believe Mayweather had great natural talent, and with his level of dedication…fuhgetaboutit.

Pretty much. Gotta hand it to Floyd in that respect as well: he knew how to market himself.

I think Floyd really believes he is TBE. But in all fairness, who wouldn’t with his level of achievement? It’s also the marketing angle. Mayweather really cashed in on both the fans and the haters. He got everyone to pay up.

Mayweather believes a lot of things, most of which I'm uninterested in. Boxing wise, yeah he's one of the best, but strip away the hype and a lot of it's underwhelming. I certainly don't miss him being an active boxer and I actually think he instigated a lot of problems boxing suffers today, with fighters protecting records and pricing themselves out of fights they might lose. No one used PPV numbers as a marketing tool before Floyd, and that got old real quick.
