He has a fair point, but what gives you a higher risk of CTE is getting hit in the head too much.

Also, in the older era's the fighters weren't such weight bullies as today. Many in this era squeeze themselves to make a lower weight, and then rehydrate and like to be a bit bigger than their opponent.

Back in the day, they were called cooks. Now, they're called nutritionists for their pharmaceutical knowledge. Health in a bottle, pills and justifications.

The truth is, a soccer mom who works out every other day at a fitness center has enough knowledge about weight and nutrition to effectively advise a boxer on proper weight management.
Boxing is entrenched in the old ways more than any other sport, pound the pavement and hit the bag, its taking a lot longer for science to sink into the depths of boxing, but it is slowly.

Prograis is full of S... Any decent fighter who has an ounce of discipline doesn't need a nutritionist, S&C coach and the rest of the BS con jobs floating around boxing. The best fighters never had one why now? Robinson, Leonard, Hagler, Duran, Arguello, Monzon, etc, etc..

I don't think he's claiming that hiring a nutritionist will make him a better fighter. But being guided by one helps to reduce/eliminate the physiological stress caused by crash diets and anachronistic weight control protocols. e.g. sauna sessions, excessive road work, etc.

Jesus wept... He's not saying that being in a dehydrated/weakened state gives you CTE, he's saying that fighting in that state exacerbates the effects of taking punches to the head. Which it does, as I thought everyone was aware of by now.

Weight draining culture is a modern phenomenon in boxing.

And it increased after the 'Day before fight weigh in rule was introduced'.

Sugar Ray Robinson was not dropping 10-15-20 pounds 'On fight night under the same day weigh in rule'.

So this notion that weight draining is old school method of making weight, is complete nonsense.

It is a new school way of making weight, for opportunistic fighters who want to be the big man on fight night.

Nothing old school about it, not to the extent fighters use such methods these days.

Weight draining, catch weights, re-hydration clauses. All of these variables are the reason why? The lower weight classes in terms of competition is not pure.

And why no matter what the level of ability, I rate the Heavyweight division as the purest form of raw competition in the sport.

No Weight Draining, No Catch Weights, No Re-hydration clauses, just competition etc.

A good nutritionist can work wonders. More boxers should get one if they can afford to.
