When promoters/advisors started getting too big. Spence "I'll never fight Thurman" until his boss Haymon told him he would.
Since when do fighters hide behind their promoters?

if a fighter is not obedient, his promoter will put him on a shelf. that means 0 income with all the expenses. it's hard to survive like that let alone become successful. if a fighter doesn't sign with a powerful promoter or network, he won't get many chances (sometimes 0). but if you sign with a powerful promoter that automatically means you are on the other side of the street and it would be difficult to fight people from other stables. it's an awful circle. example: jaron ennis.
the only way out is to become a superstar early but that's almost impossible in the current climate. after joshua, fury and canelo retire there would be no superstars. there would be no cash cow to beat to become a new one. and young fighters are very protected so they can become small stars in their 30s which is too late. we all know the vast majority of people only watch (and pay) stars. that means there would be less eyes on the sport and less butts in the seats = lower purses = less interest in becoming a part of this sport. athletes would prefer other sports even more which means less talent in boxing = even less interest.Comment

- - It's good U mummy let U out to play. This is a new thing to be fair. Fighters frequently are saying: well he's with another promoter and you know what that means. Those of us that are old enough: no we don't.
Hagler never said well you got to talk to my promoter, Tyson wasn't like well let's see what my promoter thinks. Fighters called out fighters, fights got made, and boxing was exciting. Promoters are getting too much press these days.
Now it's like well I don't know, I'll have to ask me mum if I can come out and play.
Getting really old hearing people regurgitate this like it's 100% bonafide fact. Facts are that it's all bullshit and a great excuse to save face in the media.
Leave boxing and promoting to the big boys.Comment

Promoters are a shield now. Like having a lawyer in court. Lame!
Not since the 80's, the smaller guys had little choice but to make the big fights because the HW's were making the big cheese. It wasn't until Oscar came on the scene when the tide turned.
Like I was saying above about the HWs and how they made the biggest money, at the end of the day even they were all under Don King so it's like you got what you got a lot of times and a lot of guys were happy to get it. A lot of Ali's opponents have been gracious to have gotten the opportunity to actually win a purse that put food on their table for more than a minute. I've seen loads of interviews with his opponents saying it.
But the smaller guys (who were mostly all Arums guys), if you didn't jump on the chance, you got left behind. I'm sure there was some level of power with the top guys, but probably not a lot.
TL;DR
I bet take ot or leave it was said a lot back then.Comment

That works when you’re a fighter like Canelo or Pacquiao. The fighter works for the promoter. If I was Eddie Hearn, Bob Arum or whoever and I had to put up the money, negotiate sponsorship deals, find the fight venue, and whatever else goes into making a fight happen I would be the one saying who fights who. So I get why promoters are they way they are.Comment

Since when do tough guys like you hide behind bets that give you massive odds ? I bet this clown to a fight of HIS choice and he still hasn’t responded.
A reminder 10 K to 1 K , as I placed myself the heavy favored and he has hidden since .? What a puzzy .

Once you answer those questions I've been asking you to answer (at least 8 posts now) over the course of several months, we can move foward with answers to your questions and not a moment before.Originally posted by War RoomAnswer my questions and I'll answer your questions. Simple.- Who was the sparring parter of Vlads you knocked out?
- And those 6 "ko's" you have, were they pro or amateur?
- Were you a leg breaker for the Mafia?
