Hmmm... Was this the first time Rold did p4p rankings?http://philboxing.com/news/all.artic...id=234&id=6804

In reality I have nothing but praise for Rold, who's one of the best writers on Boxingscene. I just wanted his reasoning for the Floydranking. He probably has a logical explanation. Wheter one agrees with that is maybe another matter.Comment

Not sure, but I had an extensive argument with him about Floyd and Parra on these boards. He defended his statements wholeheartedly, not for a moment considering that Floyd should be above Parra.Hmmm... Was this the first time Rold did p4p rankings?

TBH I know nothing about that Parra guy. Zip. But with the benefit of hindsight it's obvious today that Floyd was the more talented of the two.
Of course there's no exact science in making a p4p list. It's subjective opinions. Posters on a messageboard doesn't need logic when compiling p4p lists as is clear on a daily basis here on NSB. It is however required that a professional boxing writer has to have some logic behind his selections. Logic that that one can agree or disagree with.Comment

At the time (06...not a year or so ago), Parra had gone road warrior and was beating some very good fighters while Floyd was only coming out of his ABYSMAL 03-05 run with the Judah fight. Parra stayed too long at Fly and was stopped after missing weight and then having to hold at scale weight for Sakata III. He was then suspended a year but performed well against Cab in a good fight. It was, in hindsight, too high but Parra was very good during a short peak.TBH I know nothing about that Parra guy. Zip. But with the benefit of hindsight it's obvious today that Floyd was the more talented of the two.

No duck...his overall career accomplishments are strong. His Welter accomplishments have to account for two years off. I think division ratings have to be more objective than P4P ratings as well and objectively Cotto and Mosley have earned higher Welter slots. Floyd hasn't fought an outright Welter in his last two fights with two years off between. That's my main problem with the latest p4p rankings. How can Floyd p4p be ranked above boxers who rank above him in a division where he has been for the last four years?
I asked that question to boxingscene's Cliff Rold in his p4p rankings thread but he shamelessly ducked me.

Cotto is so weight drained at 147 that he decided to come in at 146 for his last fight.:thinking1: Forget that he'll have over 24 hours to rehydrate that extra pound.
Anyhow, could have something to do with Floyd being a smaller fighter than Mosley. Pac is #1 p4p and will remain that way after beating Cotto, but he probably won't become ranked #1 at WW.Comment

It's just that it's so long ago since Floyd last had a great win. How long can you go before wins become obsolete? No duck...his overall career accomplishments are strong. It's a fair question and all I can say is at this point he's got the right combination of visible skill and career package. The 06-07 run, and Marquez, were solid. He probably wouldn't get to #1 again even if Pac loses. If Cotto convincingly beats Pac, I might shoot him to the top spot because his overall body of work in boxing over the last four years is unreal and that would be icing.Comment
