they both had belts. andre could have equally challenged Dawson for the 175 belt and become a two weight champ.

Dawson is the one that took the most risk in that fight and it burned him. massive mistake.

I don't remember the time frame but as long as Stevenson was with Haymon and Ward with Rocnation that fight wasn't going to happen. You think Spence and Crawford is a problem.

I don’t think Ward would’ve fought Stevenson anyways. Adonis wasn’t with Haymon when he beat Dawson. In a while year Ward said nothing and luckily industry didn’t instigate about it. He then went on another hiatus lol

He made a mistake and was too stubborn to admit he was wrong.

As another poster said, he was poorly advised by someone that he could make 168 easily - so he called Ward out and said he'd fight him at 168. When Ward accepted the offer, Dawson's team really assessed it and he came back and said they wanted it at a catchweight or 175, but Wards team said "Thanks but no thanks - we have no interest in fighting above 168lbs".

That left Dawson in a really bad position - he'd have to turn down the fight after having called Ward out, for Ward's belts, on HBO. And rather than back off and be like "Hey, I was biting off more than I could chew there. My bad." He insisted on going through with the fight.

It was well documented on here that Dawson spent his camp in panic mode, unable to cut weight, got knocked out cold in sparring by Edison Miranda, complaining to the media about having to fight at 168 when he was the one had called Ward out at specifically that weight, etc. He should have pulled out of the fight and I'm sure John Scully told him he needed to, but he insisted and we all saw what happened. Career-ending.

It should also be mentioned had absolutely no one to fight at 175 - Haymon wasn't gonna match Dawson with Tavoris Cloud. Nathan Clevery wasn't going to come to America to fight him. The only thing really looming out there was Stevenson climbing up the rankings, and that was high-risk low-reward.

Notice fans says Dawson dared to be great, even with a Hopkins win as an accolade, no catchweight narrative for Ward vs Dawson. Yet Canelo isn’t dared to be great having fought Bivol directly at 175. How does that work? Bivol was already clamoring to fight Smith at 168 before Canelo beat Smith. Bivol still insisted to want 168 after Canelo beat Plant. These were actual Boxingscene articles that I bumped recently. Yet fans don’t like to instigate it because it would exempt Canelo and they prefer any other narratives but that.

Bhop made concessions for DLH. Ward didn’t dare to be great by wanting the man who beat Hopkins. 8lbs is a lot and fans don’t want to acknowledge it, though some do as posters in the thread say Dawson was drained.

it just scares Canelo haters the thought of Bivol fighting Canelo at 168. Even Bivol recently is reneging the 168 narrative because he got the Canelo payday. Fans don’t want to accept that Bivol was willing to hinder his performance like Dawson for the Canelo payday. Canelo gets no credit for going to 175. Had Canelo had management like Floyd they would’ve used Bivols call for a 168 fight because “he said it.”
This dude’s in love but it’s love for another man. Did you put on your pink leotards and matching lipstick before jerking it to your favorite sweaty Canelo poster today? Bad news skippy, Canelo doesn’t swing that way but I guess you still have your sick fantasies.

Give him a break, that dude’s in love. Someone mentions Canelo and his ears turn into pistol grips, back go his special made garbage door teeth and Vaseline squirts out of his nose.

What’s even better is that by Bivol acknowledging 168 for some time means it shouldn’t be a problem for a catchweight. I said this on the board for a couple years, ever since Bivol said he wanted Callum Smith at 168. If Bivol really wanted Canelo, how could’ve also forfeited his belt at a catchweight but never offered it. By Bivol going to 168 means he would be able to retain his LHW belt, and that’s why Bivol was calling out 168 Champions. As a Canelo fan, we saw the Mexican try and failed at the 175 WBA. A rematch from 168-175 is great because the fans will get a fight anyways. This is what most boxing fans don’t get.

Because Bivol is an incredibly small LHW fighter. He huydrates to 183 against Canelo, and against Zurdo he looked 2-3 classes smaller
