Obviously I wanted to see Spence - Crawford as much as anyone, but let's assume that's not going to happen. If Spence stays at 147 and fights his three mandatories against Thurman (WBC), Stanionis - Ortiz winner (WBA) and Boots (IBF), what does that do for his legacy as compared with a win over Crawford?

A win over Boots could be huge if Ennis goes onto fulfil his potential.
Stanionis doesn’t do much for him. Solid fighter but no special effects.
Thurman is a good name for the resume but he’s just looking for a cash out fight IMO.Comment

But if he beat Ennis now that would mean he is not what everybody thought so he couldn't reach his potential it would be derailed, its a good win because of the hype but I don't think it would be a huge win unless Ennis won some big fights first. right now he hasn't beaten jack it's just hype on blowing out nobody, his best is Lipinets who just fought at 140 .Comment

If Spence fights Thurman next and win but don't get the Crawford fight my guess is that he will move up.Comment

More than likely. PBC likes it that way, some how they will get the sanctioning bodies to agree and why wouldn't they.
Charlo/Tszyu is the biggest money fight in that weight at the moment and if Spence moves up he will be the lucrative name to face.Comment

All are quality fights but none would bring the prestige/legacy a win over Crawford would have. The real question is can Spence fight all of those mandatories before some alphabet organization feels slighted and strips him.Comment

At this point fans pretty much don't care anymore. Spence and Crawford will just be seen as individuals with their own respective accomplishments or records in the sport, whatever you call it. It's an accurate representation of the sport itself with top fighters wanting nothing to do with each other and would rather chart their own individual paths. Which is what is happening right now. I don't think Spence can still stay longer than a year in this weight class.Comment
