Should a Boxer 200-220 lb fight in the cruiserweight division first ?

A amatuer boxer with a good record(5-1) told me he’s trying to lose weight to be a cruiserweight as a pro and if he gets a title then go back up to heavyweight to get more money and atleast get good pay fighting bigger men.

Depends purely on the quality of the fighter you cant say based on only the weight, if he gets a title is a big aspiration to begin with.

Sounds like he is getting way ahead of himself.

Casually saying if I get a title then I will go up for more money is not the right mindset to have when training.

Honestly all depends on how well his body responds to the weight cut

Doubt he will get paid as good since promoters do a bad job at advertising CW but if he can make the weight it seems like a sound idea since he fight in a more even field due to the weight clauses while the division is at its best right now as it gained more traction thanks to Usyk.

It still quite underappreciated but people now actually now the names of the top fighters such as Dorticos, Makabu, Okolie, Briedis, Bellew and etc.

U should get down as low as your body can tolerate and still be very effective.

The guy is 5 - 1 in the ams. Hes already been pumped somewhere by a no name local junior who probably has no aspirations at all. Hes never getting a title. But props to him for stepping in the ring. Takes some guts.

5-1 record as an amateur is a good record? That's six fights!

A boxer should fight at the weight he's most comfortable. Starting in Cruiserweight and then moving to Heavyweight could be a shock because the opponents are so much bigger. Not everyone can be a Holyfield or Usyk.
