Don't forget that Canelo has already fought and beat 7 other guys just as big or bigger than Bivol.

He boxed Canelo's head off for 12 rounds. Are we seriously still calling it hype?

I gave Canelo a ton of credit for taking the fight because I previously said he never would. People moaning about the size advantage are ill informed because Canelo has already fought and beat 7 other guys just as big or bigger than Bivol. I certainly think Canelo is capable of winning with the right strategy but let's not use the word "hype" along with Bivol's name, no matter what happens.

I think part of the problem with people acknowledging Bivol is that he's quiet and just lets his skill do the talking, and he has a way of making the hard things he does look easy, so that many people overlook them.

He can fight off the front or the back foot well, and that's already a pretty small subset, especially considering he can do it with enough power to keep his opponents honest. But he's absolutely exceptional at ring generalship. He never gets backed up to the ropes without immediately taking an angle and getting back to the center.

Zurdo and Canelo couldn't cut the ring off against him at all, because he throws combinations at just the right time to blind them as he gets out, and he changes that timing so they never know when it's coming. Other people are predictable when they get out, say, trying to throw a combo when their back touches the rope. That's easy to time and counter for a skilled fighter. But Bivol doesn't get countered. I'm quite sure Bivol knows exactly where he is in the ring at all times and is very good at getting his opponent in range right when they're in the middle of taking a step and can't punch back. Then he throws a quick combo and disappears. He makes it look really easy so it looks like he's just doing the basics, but that kind of timing is really elite level.

He's also got a fabulous jab. It's really fast and energy efficient but still powerful enough to keep people honest. There are very few people who have jabs as good as Bivol does. He often uses his rhythm to get them off, but changes his rhythm and timing so he doesn't get countered. Just those two things are really hard to do, and he does them so well that he makes them look easy, and since he's so quiet, I think he gets underestimated.

That is not true. Who is bigger than Bivol? Only Kovalev, but he was old and shot.

Canelo is a very good fighter no doubt. He would have been a great fighter had he stayed in one division and defended his title 10+ times before moving up different weight classes. Bivol is a fundamentally sound fighter not caught up in all the hype of being a popular champion. He is a fighter through and through and he looks for the best challenges. The way he beat Canelo was clinical and simple for him. He used his great movement, jab and right hand combination and showed excellent stamina doing it. Canelo has to admit that Bivol is a better fighter than him. Out of 5 fights, Bivol wins the all. Duran's comments are right for his era. Today's era of boxing doesn't see fighters who immediately engage in rematches. They look for excuses today.

That's what I thought too but there's a reason why he didn't rematch bivol. He looked like zhit against ggg .
