Hipsters like you are hilarious. Canelo's explosive counters, active guard and use of feints was non-existent in the 40s.
All you need to do is watch a fight from the late 40s to see that boxing as an art had pretty much solidified its meta.
Boxing in the 20s was still evolving, I agree. But not in the 40s. You literally have fighters, like Canelo Alvarez that barely have the stamina to fight 1/3 of a 15 round fight.
HWs from the 70s like Ali, Foreman, Frazier, etc. look limited compared to the best of today's HWs, but you think boxing stopped evolving technically and athletically 80 years ago?
Also, 90s Foreman was more technical, higher IQ and much bigger than his 70s version if you are going to come at me with that flawed talking point.Comment

I actually like this matchup. Charles had a nice left hook, and somewhat was a proto Bivol in similar ways. Wide stance when assaulting a loaded punch, or the right cross followed by a hook, albeit Bivol is more dynamic t throw left jab and the left hook in blazing speed.
Canelo has excellent head movement even when weaving, along with short height, he’d see Charles’ left hooks a mile away. Charles never faced an opponent as fast as Canelo nor did he face an opponent era or precise body striking even in counters. To Canelo I’d say Charles would be a hybrid of Jacobs and Bivol but not enough to beat Canelo at 168-200. Can’t hate on Charles. He studied the game as a tactician too.
as far as stamina, that cliche gets old. The only reason why Canelo has in prevoius Fights showed stamina issues is because he loads up too much on shots. That’s a preference. If Canelo toned it down, people would complain the same way people complain about defensive first fighters. There’s no myth with stamina. Power punching has the same effect as swimming. Swim faster (more exertion) and you tire out quicker.Comment

You are on *******. I recommend doing actual research, such as watching Charles fight against Llloyd Marshal to see how refined boxing was in the 40s.

Fighters, especially heavyweights tend to get better overtime. Floyd Patterson was a better fighter post-Liston, as proven by his fights with Ellis, Bonavena, and Quarry.
Forman was a better fighter as he aged not due to competition but due to mentality.
Canelo Alvarez who got nearly knocked out by Dmitry Bivol is not going the distance with Charles.Comment

Canelo’s hand has been messed up. You could see it bandaged even during the Plant days. Remember his knee braces in his fights before he got surgery? He just didn’t want to really injure his hand making mistakes as GGG is a master defensive mover. If you hit the gym and love throwing power punch combinations you’d know exactly what is meant.Comment
