Its also set a really bad precedence. Why even bother fighting your way up the ranks when you can be a mediocre "boxer" and just get famous on social media / reality TV series and then do clown match ups to make more money. How many actual ranked light heavyweights out there is Tommy making more than for this "exhibition" ? you got all those guys who are ranked 10th through 50th in the world saying *** it I just need to land a jake paul fight why bother trying in boxing for peanuts.

To be fair, it’s on some exhibition card in Dubai, I doubt it’s the most professionally run event going. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if it happened like that. Even the opponent is saying that contracts were different and it seems that was actually the case which is completely ridiculous. So it’s not like he’s missed weight per se. Have you been watching the card? It just started. It looks like complete amateur hour from the production, to the sound, to the fights

The new fight and opponent is probably a better one anyway

Some African with 1 defeat and ranked 77 on boxrec is probably actually a good opponent for someone like Tommy Fury who hasn’t had many fights. If he wasn’t running around trying to fight YouTubers and this was just part of his normal development and he was serious about building a boxing career, you would actually say it’s a pretty good match making at this stage. Boots Ennis was fighting guys 3-18 in his 14th fight lol. Berlanga never fought anyone in the boxrec top 100 until about 3 fights ago.

So I think this new opponent tonight is a good fight for him and bit of a step up
