Aren't you English like me? I can well believe you haven't heard 'thug' or 'uppity' used in this manner, but they've long been used as pejorative descriptors of African Americans.

Yes I'm English and no I've never heard someone call anyone a thug or uppity due to their race...

Are you sure it's being used specifically towards African Americans and not just used in a general sense.

And calling someone both uppity and a thug seems quite incongruent at least from my understanding of "uppity".

P.S. My understanding of Uppity is someone who is a snob, a snobby criminal doesn't make much sense hence the incongruent comment.

Well exactly, you wouldn't have heard, esp. 'thug', used round here in that sense. Neither did I until fairly recently

In America its used as a stereotype for black male residents of ******s, or more widely applied to black ppl in general of a diff socio-economic standing as an insult.

Obv over here, you say 'thug', and everyone thinks of someone that sinks 8 pints at the pub after trying to break your legs in Sunday league football.

Re: using 'uppity' and a 'thug', its true to say they haven't necessarily been used at the same time to describe 1 person, but I was just using an example

to me a thug is someone who commits violence, for example, a group of guys just randomly attack some guy walking home, they are a bunch of thugs and need to be locked up

It’s deffo not rocket science is it. Indeed those terms are used specially for black Americans and have been by white Americans going back to the 19th century in terms of uppity while thug has been used more recently had a replacement code word for the n word. Along with terms like hood rat and such it’s pretty clear what they mean just as when someone says chav or rude boy/yardie on which groups they are highlighting. What’s wonky is how white British will use terms without having been to the usa, not understanding the usa, knowing virtually nothing about the usa but choosing sides on something that doesn’t concern them. Black Americans are less than 13% of the population of the usa and other than sports and entertainment really have nothing to do with the U.K. I would venture to say the average white brit has little to no contact with black Americans in their lifetime without spending a significant amount of time in the Usa unless they have spent time in the British army, RAF, RMCs, RN and spent time training with the “yanks” since black Americans are over represented in the U.S. military especially in the nco ranks. But hey, I guess a few black guys posting on YouTube goes a long way these days…makes people choose sides it does, and say things like “woke” and all.

uppity to me is maybe someone who has a high opinion of themselves, they are expressing views maybe with an arrogant air about them, they may have a good job but really like to tell people about it & maybe make a few snidey digs at the persons job who they are talking to

You and your weird obsession with black guys whilst not being black and youtube isn't nothing to with this conversation.

The meaning of words doesn't suddenly change from their original definition because of how someone subjectively feels about it or their location Christ almighty, perception is not reality despite what you've been brain washed into thinking.

your "feelings" in relation to said word(s) might change but quite frankly fúck your feelings, the world would be a complete cluster fúck if that were the case.
