Comments Thread For: Conor Benn: I'm Really Trying To Prove My Innocence, Get To Bottom of What Happened

As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Conor Benn has admitted that he tested positive for clomiphene in July, two months before the positive test that scuppered his fight with Chris Eubank Jr. But despite two failed tests he insists he is a clean athlete.

I think whats happened here is simple. Benns first positive was swept under the carpet...which led to him thinking he was somewhat immune to the rules. Its possible that he recieved a warning on the downlow after the first...but didnt heed it. With all the noise senior was making...it was too risky to hush the second test.

Conor is right.he’s claiming to spend over 100k quid on this to prove there is a possibility this is contamination. That alone proves to me he must be innocent. The amount of money one spends to prove something to me says if they are guilty or not. Did OJ murder Nicole? Nope. Look how much his legal team cost. Would a guilty person spend that much on a defense team? Think about it .

This case has been handled so badly by all parties involved. Boxing really needs to take a long hard look at itself.

            Only the boxing authorities though.

Legally it's been just fine. The guy is clear to fight. He's not been banned by the Anti Doping authorities. After all, he didn't fail a mandatory test.

Contractually it was fine. They each entered into a contract and paid for voluntary testing where both parties get the results. Eubank's team got those results, reviewed them, and were fine with them.

The only issue has been the public outcry and the Board's response to that outcry.

I'm going to guess that this isn't that uncommon and is an overreaction to something fairly minor.

If they didn't voluntarily do VADA testing this fight would have gone ahead and no-one would have had any issue with trace levels of clomiphene.

This cloud may never go away for Conor Benn and IF he can't give a good enough reason why he failed two two tests and once the 'B' sample is tested , then no doubt three/four then his career is truly on the rocks. Even Hearn is starting to distance himself now saying that he won't be part of Benn until he's been in front of the board or and explained how it's happened and with Benn struggling to give an answer it looks bleak., although Hearn is blindly backing his innocence. I was never up for the silly and dangerous match v Jr. but I would I hope that Benn in innocent but I'm struggling now to see how.

If you make your own meals and control what goes in your mouth it hard to test positive. Of course someone tainted his food

I and several of my kids work in industries that require random drug testing. If you test positive, you face the consequences. Why should this guy get a better deal than everybody else? Nobody knows for certain about his guilt or innocence yet, but it's not hard to see how such an entitled mindset could lead a cheater to believe he can get by with it. Entitled people always have an almighty set of hurt feelings when they find they aren't all that special, and the rules are the rules.

If the sport truly wants PEDs out, then people who pop for drugs must be banned for life upon a confirmed positive, no exceptions -- ever. And I'm well aware that would wipe out a lot of current champions from Caneo Alvarez to Tyson Fury. If drugs contributed in any small way to their becoming champions, then they are the very cheaters we most need to be rid of.
