Benevidez would beat the absolute $#!t out of Canelo, and Canelo knows it.

Boxing of today is too run by “stars” who want to maximise profit with the path of least resistance. The most money with the least risk. No sport can function forever like that. Boxing when I was young and not so young was about the old lions beating back to the new lions. You didn’t have to be already a champion with wins over 10 other champions to get a shot at the man, you just had to be the beat looking contender at that point in time. Champions took on contenders and that’s how new champions were crowned. Canelo is the antithesis of that. And what’s worse is people make excuses for him being this way, they do this because of race and or national origin.Comment

Yildirim was a mandatory. The others were current world champions. If Benavidez would have kept his belt, he would have gotten his shot last year. The narrative that Benavidez is being and has been ducked by Canelo is farcical. Benavidez is a very good fighter, but there was no compelling reason to fight him before any of the fighter's Canelo fought over the last two years. Everybody accepts that Canelo was testing the 168lb waters when he moved up to fight Fielding. After that, every other fight Canelo took was either a mandatory, a world title challenge or a legacy fight that earned him something new. Fighting Benavidez was just a good SMW win, with nothing more. These two will fight soon enough. I hope its soon.
2. Benavidez was a champion at 168 and canelo never expressed any interest in fighting him. He did however petition for his belt just 3 days after he was stripped. Coincidence? Sure. There is no guarantee that if he kept his belt that Canelo would’ve fought him because he didn’t express interest in the belt until benavidez didn’t have it. 3. It’s funny how you mention Yidilgrim was a mandatory. The first mandatory canelo ever faced in his career because before he gave up his title instead of facing mandatories on 3 different occasions.
Like I said, he’s a hypocrite and clearly doesn’t want to fight Benavidez.

Benavidez is completely at fault on this one. He never should've snorted coke and come in overweight. That was all on him. Now begging for fights is not the way to do it, nor fighting bums like Uzcatugei. He should fight Plant next summer/spring and force a Canelo showdown in September of next year. Staying at PBC isn't helping either, he needs to leave that sh.it show, it's clear they only care about a certain group of boxers and don't give a damn about their Latino fighters.
Pretty damn sad state that the only way dudes get title shots right now is by having keyboard warriors do the fighting for them.Comment
