link please - nobody ducking pbc - pbc always praised for being good for boxer's 'careers ' so good in fact that fighters earn mega bucks fighting 1 fight a year against each other - but often times even that isn't possible - not good for the fans - too difficult to work with - in general - obviously a few exceptions

The Competition Index is impartial, it's just based on a running measure of who you beat and where they were ranked at the time.
But that competition index is subjective. For example, certain countries and certain promoters build a fighter's record with careful matchmaking so that they arrive at 18-0 or 22-1 without ever beating anyone other than a decent prospect. Then someone like Spence comes along and beats guys with 20-0 record and they have supposedly beaten better competition.
Far as I can see, Spence has three good names on his resume,Brook, Porter and Ugas. (I don't rate Danny at 147) - and get this - NONE of those 3 are making it into the HOF. And all while he is at 147. Yet he is in almost everyone's top 5 at p4p - huh?
I would have Jermell at least equal or higher than Errol in p4p and any competition index ( I don't know where Jermell actually is) but for the last 6/7 years 154lbs has been waaaay more competitive than 147 so I give Jermell all the leeway in the world for having lost one and drawn one. He avenged both.
As for Inoue - he unified 3 weight divisions above where he started out and Donaire is a future HOF first ballot and was still winning titles in his late 30s - not like he looked shop worn or anything as he took/takes great care of himself. Inoue is already called an ATG by Breadman which I agree with - and now its just a question of how far he can go up the ATG ladder - if he beats either MJ or Cool Boy then he will leap up that ladder. Spence would need to beat Bud and Jermell to make the same leap - at least.
Inoue doesn't make the top 10. There's no way around it.
If we are going to exclude resume when determining the best fighter in the world then maybe Boots Ennis is the best. He looks spectacular and passes the eye test too.Comment

I don't want to totally exclude resume - but for me it's their resume last 2/3 fights or last 2 years - longer ago than that we are dealing with history - something that WAS but ISN'T anymore. Boots is top 5 imo - at worst he would lose a very tight decision to Spence and Crawford - he might get clipped but he could likely clip Bud too and outbox Errol.

Me personally, you have to show me that you really are the best before I crown you.

There have been too many fighters who were blowing away inferior competition and then the knockouts suddenly stop coming when they step up in class.
But that's my way of seeing things, everyone is entitled to have their own opinion.Comment

I've yet to see anyone who matches up with Inoue. I've seen world-class fighters fight like hell to survive Inoue, but aside from Nonito Donaire I've seen no one seriously threaten him and Nonito didn't fare well in the rematch with an un-injured Monster. Meanwhile just on the eye-test, I've watched Inoue land counters to punches that hadn't yet reached him. He is so damn quick physically and mentally and his mechanics, hand and foot, are so flawless i just have to laugh at people who question him being at Home P4P, which is where he belongs, IMO. Best of luck to Butler and Fulton, but I find myself in the very unfamiliar position of agreeing with Bob Arum. I'm not sure anyone belongs in the ring with the "monster" and I don't think Fulton is in any hurry to meet him either. What weaknesses are there to try to exploit?Comment
