Will Chad Dawson one day be as great as Joe Calzaghe?

As a big Chad Dawson fan I think he has the potential to be great, he does have flaws in his boxing, but that can be improved over time. He's hitting his prime. My main criticism of him is that he doesn't fight enough, but I understand boxers are in it for the money and they want the big fights. It doesn't help that Dawson is now under the control of Gary Shaw and HBO. Critics say Dawson's chin is bad, I don't think it's bad at all, he's a tough boxer he can take a punch.

You're kidding right? Did you even see his last fight? He was utterly underwhelming and every fan/commentator was disgusted and thought he was a hypejob. He has yet to prove if he's even elite let alone gonna be an ATG that's a joke.

      Why not?

It seems he'll have the same problem as Joe though in that there aint a lot of talent in his division. Hes got the skills to go a long way, he just needs the right opponents. Im still holding out hope that Joe comes back to fight him, BHop too.

Its possible he's more naturally gifted than Calzaghe and he doesn't slap...

Dawson would do okay as long as he stays out of Clouds way.

Yes he does and he will be hated on a lot to. Please don't act like Joe Calzaghe didn't have any lack luster performances. Every great fighter has had there share of those.

Sorry but no, never. Calza' is one of those classic boxer/fighters type. Dawson doesn't have the hunger, the skillz or the chin to get to that position. He'll be a good champ but not a great champion.

Avoiding dangerous fights. He'll end up like Calzaghe alright if that's the path he takes.

Dawson has great physical talent, but he seems to be lacking in a few spots.

My main beef is that he takes rounds off, or seems to have mental lapses. He could've, IMO, shutout Tarver the first time but he gave away two or three rounds. Also, during the Adamek fight he got complacent with the fight, threw a lazy lead right hook, and got countered and dropped. Same thing during the second Tarver fight and was stunned; however, I don't hold that against him much, as that was a fight no one, and probably him, wanted to see. Also, in the Johnson fight, he made it tough on himself by fighting on the inside too much, catering to Johnson's strengths.

My other beef is that he doesn't jab enough. He's got such a good one being that he's a natural righty, but doesn't use it enough. Even Eddie M. Muhammad keeps imploring him to use it more in between rounds.

He's got a lot of work to do, but he's only 27 and should reach his peak in two or three years. Hopefully he can iron out his flaws.
