Did Stevenson pick the worst time to move up?

Two years ago he could had faced the likes of Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney to catapult himself into stardom.

Now that most of the famous lightweights are moving up to Junior Welterweight.

He will face much more difficult unknown opponents which some are unproven.

    There is:

-Raymond Muratalla who's basically a technically sound, powerful hitting switch hitter who's on the rise at Top Rank.

-Frank Martin a very slick hard punching southpaw who hasn't been caught clean rising in the rankings.

-Lomachenko the amateur boxing legend, double golden medalist, and proven champion at Top Rank.

-Edwin De Los Santos whose physically very talented and can turn the tides.

-Gervonta Davis who boxes very well and has one punch knockout power.

-Isaac Cruz a relentless pressure fighter with power who's difficult to look good against.

I suppose there is also Joseph Diaz Jr and Kambosos but they are beatable fighters for any top-ranking elite lightweights.

He has Devin Haney with all the belts in his own stable. If Arum really believes this kid is the future I can definitely see him sacrificing Haney to make him Undisputed.

Yeah. But Promotors don't sacrifice anyone. Brad Goodman and Bruce Trampler would have to convince Haney that it's a good idea to fight Shakur, to put his belts on the line. I don't see that happen. Ultimately, Haney would have to want to fight Shakur. Haney moves in sly ways. He'll avoid any real threat because he follows the Money Mayweather Jr. blueprint.

There's no way that fight happens.

The sport is kind of messed up because the moment a boxer becomes a legit threat, people run from him as if carried the plague.

No, this is great for 135, now we can have a round robin of Tank-Loma-Shakur.

Ryan Garcia has permanently moved to 140 only making Gervonta Davis an exception. While Devin Haney has implied that he will likely move up after the rematch against Kambosos was announced.

I think he will for the right price. Who’s he going to fight at 140? If I were Arum I wouldn’t offer up Teo or Taylor to Haney. I’d make him fight Stevenson or some low level bum for no money. I’d force his hand.

Yeah. I mean. I'll tell you now. I absolutely believe Shakur beats Haney, no problem. Well, maybe not "no problem," but he beats him. I can't see Haney winning, even if they fought 10 times. And I believe that Haney must know this too based on the sparring sessions. I've seen a little, and I saw Shakur control distance better, and I saw Shakur have the better defense. Of course sparring is sparring, but that was eye opening. And I have an idea that Haney's asking price to fight Shakur would be so extreme that the fight will never happen.

However, if it would happen, I'd buy the PPV and not think twice.
