And while other fighters have been able to parlay the Delahoya windfall into stardom of their own (Trinidad, Hopkins, Mayweather, Pacquiao), Shane has largely wasted all the exposure he gained from those fights.

Shane is a partner in Golden Boy. HBO has committed dates into the future for GBP fights, even though the combatants haven't been identified. Normally, a promoter needs to "sell" an intriguing matchup to the network. Such is the power that GBP wields within the industry. What is Shane’s role and influence as an equity partner in GBP?

Shane has been offered several fight opportunities in 2009. Williams , Berto and Clottey come to mind. Shane abjectly said that he would not fight Williams (“I’d fight anyone, but I really would not want to fight him”). Further, a review of Shane’s record indicates that his pronouncements that he can’t get fights just ring hollow; Mosley has had fights with Delahoya, Collazo, Vargas, Wright, Forrest, Cotto, Mayorga, and Margarito. Additionally, he was offered fights against the aforementioned Williams, Berto and Clottey. As an aggregate, that represents the lion’s share of the pantheon of the 147/154 class over the past decade. Mosley has fought in MSG, in Vegas, and in his home state of California. He has been a fixture on HBO, and has even fought on an ESPN pay-per-view card. His exposure to the public has been vast. With those opportunities in hand, Shane should not be reduced to begging for fights – from anyone. The casual fan (and the main****** fan) is not asking for Shane Mosley. He should look internally and ask himself why not. Having squandered every opportunity presented to him, and dealing with the aftermath of a costly divorce, Shane needs money. After sixteen years as a professional, and still mired in a steroids controversy, Shane compares his $1.5 - $2 million purses to the eight-figure checks earned by Pacquiao, Hatton, and Mayweather.

This past summer, in moves that smacked of desperation and greed, Shane issued several releases to the media which were patently untrue. He indicated that a Mosley/Pacquiao bout was imminent. In fact, no negotiations had been conducted in earnest.

Sugar’ Shane Mosley: “There is unfinished business to take care of. I have never fought at junior welterweight, but I’m ready to fight at 140 now. I am coming after Pacquiao’s belt. This is the fight the fans want and I’m prepared to give it to them.

After his spectacular win over Antonio Margarito, Shane stated to the media that the fights he wanted were Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, or Ricky Hatton. Pacquiao, despite his victory over Delahoya, was unproven above 135. Hatton fared poorly in both fights at 147, including a knockout loss to Mayweather. Floyd had been retired for over a year, with no announcement of return, despite widespread speculation.

That was February. As we approach October, what has Shane accomplished?

With his showy win on Saturday night, Floyd Mayweather re-established himself at or near the top of the pound-for-pound rankings, as well as showing an ability to successfully lead a big event. PPV buys are pending, but the 13,116 paid tickets and heavy media coverage speak well for Floyd. HBO is solidly behind Floyd. Mayweather is now presented with several options, and Shane is not at the top of those options, regardless of which algorithm you apply.

Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather is the fight that every main****** fan wants to see. A global event. The fight that Ross Greenburg and Mark Taffet want. The fight that even Dana White said that should happen. It is the single biggest fight that can be made in the sport, with a solid chance to unseat “The World Awaits” as the highest grossing bout. If Pacquiao defeats Cotto on Nov 14, negotiations should begin for that mega-fight. Immediately.

If Cotto upsets Pacquiao, Mayweather-Cotto should happen. Not only does Cotto have a supportive fanbase, but he also holds a legitimate head-to-head victory over Mosley, and has a WBO belt. A Mayweather vs. Cotto fight is beyond reproach. Miguel’s resume includes wins over Mosley, Quintana, Judah, and Clottey. His sole loss was a tainted KO stoppage at the hands of the now-disgraced Antonio Margarito.

Given the timelines for huge PPV events, that leaves Mosley out of the picture until at least summer 2010. If Floyd continues to win, he must face Mosley when the dusts settles. But over the next six to nine months, there are more compelling match-ups.
And when Floyd does face Shane, Team Mayweather should be justifiably heavy-handed at the negotiating table: “$3 million, take it or leave it”.

In the meantime, Shane, handle your business. Manny, Ricky and Floyd earned their place at the “adults table”. Step your game up.

Mosley has wasted every advantgage he's had and has, without batting a eye. Now that he's lost in the sauce .. he wants & expects everyone to do it his way - so that he can get back into the thick of things.

    1. Floyd calls his own shots and can give a **** what Mosley wants. Mosley is not in a position to demand anything from anybody - let alone Mayweather.

    2. Arum is thinking about Arum's future and Mosley briings nothing to the table other than a worthless WBC belt. Why should Arum entertain Mosley's feeble cries - It just doesn't make sense.

Mosley blew it when he let Jin manage his career and he's blowing it now by running around like a crackhead begging for the Top-Dogs to fight him.

I will lose a huge amount of respect for floyd if he fights mosley PERIOD.

it was odd that Mosley would wave off a potential bout with Mayweather back in 2006 after he had defeated Fernando Vargas for the second time. The fighter was asked about the possibility of taking on Mayweather by HBO’s Larry Merchant and Shane, rather oddly, began complaining about a loose tooth and said he would take some time off. Mayweather instead took on Carlos Baldomir, winning a boring unanimous decision and then signed on for a mega-fight with Oscar De La Hoya which he won, again by decision.

Mosley, who had been riding high on the wave of success the Vargas fights had provided for him, was suddenly on the outside looking in. And for a while it looked as though he would suffer from being under the au****es of Golden Boy Promotions rather than benefit from it. He didn’t fight again for seven months until he dropped down from the junior middleweight division to welterweight and took on Luis Collazo in February of this year. He won a clear cut decision but in the build up to De La Hoya – Mayweather he again seemed to be out of the loop.

2006:I’ve been chasing Shane Mosley for ten years.

“The Pretty Boy” told the New York Times after Mosley had destroyed Vargas for a second time that, “He earned the right to fight me by getting that spectacular knockout, but I’ve been chasing Shane Mosley for ten years. But I got to talk to Jin (Mosley’s wife) because she runs the show. We can make the fight happen but she’s the boss of that household.”
Ithink this is a good time to remind people of this...AGAIN

EXCLUSIVE: 2006 MOSLEY WANTS THE LION'S SHARE FOR MAYWEATHER FIGHT!
              By G. Leon

Late last night, **********.com reached out to the Mosley's to see what the latest news was regarding their potential November 4 showdown with undefeated pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather. Although their Monday afternoon meeting with Richard Schaefer and Oscar De La Hoya was described as "great", we were informed that a deal has not been struck as of now and a follow up meeting has been scheduled for the near future. While we were not provided with detailed specifics, ********** can inform you that Mosley is currently requesting the lion's share of the money for the Mayweather bout to take place. Jin Mosley explained to ********** that she feels Floyd Mayweather Jr is delusional for thinking he's going to get the kind of money he's looking for and she made it perfectly clear that both her and Shane believe Mayweather should have taken the $8M to fight Antonio Margarito, going as far as to state, "you tell Bob Arum to give us $8M and we'll fight Margarito in November." Surely there will be much more to follow.

              2006:FLoyd Mayweather:
"I wear the pants in my family and she wears the pants in his family,''

Mayweather fighting Mosley is the biggest pay per view fight boxing match out there outside of Mayweather-De La Hoya. If Mayweather beats Mosley, who has beaten De La Hoya and Vargas twice, then Mayweather-De La Hoya next May is a bonanza. It would challenge Lewis-Tyson (1.9 million) and certainly surpass Holyfield-Lewis (1.4 million) in terms of pay per view buys. One pay per view maven was practically salivating at the thought of a Mayweather pay per view daily double of Mosley and then De La Hoya. You could hear the cash registers ringing from his head. Cha-Ching!

First you have to convince Mosley to fight again this year. He wants to take a break for the rest of the year, he said he wanted to get down to 147 pounds, having overstayed his welcome at 154 pound (but he did pocket over $6 million in the process).

Mayweather joked (at least I think he was joking) that he was going to ask Jin Mosley, Shane's wife, if she would let her husband fight him in November. Jin Mosley helps her husband make business decisions, which isn't a bad thing. But boxing is a macho sport where that kind of input from a woman, particularly a wife, is frowned upon.

"I wear the pants in my family and she wears the pants in his family,'' Mayweather said.

Ouch! The first shot across the bow has been launched.

You can bet that there's going to be a lot of pressure on Mosley to make that fight with Mayweather in November. And there probably won't be much of a need for a circus after that one because the ringmaster, De La Hoya, would be next up for Mayweather.

Shane is entitled to ask for a fight as the WW Champ. Get over it, you nuthugging ****s. This sort of crap separates the groupies from the real fans of the sport. Why the hell would you not want to see a SSM vs Floyd fight?

If there's one thing you learn after a big fight is who the posters on here who are worth a dime. True nuthugging/hating never shines more than in the immediate aftermath of a big fight.

I want to see Shane vs Floyd because it had the potential to be a great, competitive fight. And as much as I favour Floyd to UD him, I still want to see how Floyd responds to fighting someone as tough, big and fast as SSM.

Do I want to see Floyd vs Pac? Of course. That fight has to happen, and it will at some point, for both fighters. But Floyd has to at some point fight Shane too. For the record, I think he beats Pac, Shane and Coto.

But guess what? Hypothesising doesn't mean **** when the fight can actually be made.

So stop behaving like fannies because a legitimate challenger called out your favourite fighter.
