We have to go all the way back to the Wladimir Kiltschko fight. That was the last time skill for skill, he fought another elite level fighter 'In terms of technical ability'.
The Wilder fights were elite level fights, but not in terms of skill. What made those fights elite was the danger element, aggression and power of Deontay Wilder. Wilder does have a good Jab, but if only he could of come straight down the middle vs Fury during the third fight? He may well of got Fury out of there.
Fury got away with a lot of mistakes vs Wilder especially in the third fight, which was fantastic 'I was completely engrossed by the passion, resolve and determination displayed by both fighters'. But technically the fight was not a high level fight, both fighters were a complete and utter mess 'Making mistakes, unforced and forced errors'.
I think there are plenty of past all-time great fighters, that would of ****** Fury out that night. Great resolve, brilliant determination. But I honestly don't think it was a high level fight in terms of skill 'Whether that be defensive, or offensive skill'.
Usyk vs Joshua skill for skill was a higher level fight. I come to this realization, only after I re-watched the fight. And understood the action for what it was.
I enjoyed the Wilder vs Fury match ups more, and thought the competition and passion was completely awesome. But skill for skill, for sure the third fight was a high level fight.
One thing that people are overlooking, is that Joshua is actually the more experienced fighter here. Joshua cannot be playing himself down as a inexperience fighter, or learning on the job 'He is there now, and has been at the top level of boxing for quite a substantial amount of time now'.
Take Kiltschko, and Wilder off Fury's resume. He has only really fought at domestic and European level.
No doubt he is number 1, his wins vs Kiltschko and Wilder are mega wins 'But I am just adding some points for the discussion'. That is all I am doing here.
Joshua has just come off the back of 24 rounds, with one of the best pound for pound fighters skill wise in the game. While Fury in my opinion fought a clearly regressed Dillian Whyte, a fighter who can hardly move inside the ring 'And has already been ****** out multiple times before' definitively burnt out by the time he finally got his title fight.
I am not sure what to expect in this fight, I cannot give a description of the fight or make a prediction in detail. All I can say, is that Fury is the favorite 'And he really should win the fight'.
And if Fury is as great as people make out? He should get Joshua out of there. If Fury is this all-time great fighter that people claim ? Joshua is not winning a round, he is not landing on Fury, and he is not surviving the full 12 rounds.
Note: I don't want to see Fury hardcore fans switching things up right now and praising Joshua 'But we can see that already happening on this thread'. What that really is? Is stage one of their backsides going. That is exactly what that behavior is all about.
I don't want to see any of Fury's hardcore fans, being all wishy washy with their predictions. Don't start being all nice now, I don't want to see any compliments towards Joshua.
We all know why Fury jumped at Joshua now. It was a opportunistic move, but it is also a smart move. And I don't think Joshua can complain, his own perceived troubles and traumas is providing him opportunities 'That is the wisdom of nature'. You pray for strength, and obstacle gets put in your way.
He
You’re the poster child for deluded casual fans that haven’t got a clue.
you haven’t predicted one big fight correct in all your time here. In fact, the complete opposite happens.

It keeps getting quoted that Joshua has lost 3 of his last 5 or whatever it is - but that is redundant. You have to look at who he was fighting. Yes the Ruiz loss is not great but losing twice to Usyk - no shame in that and - objectively - I felt he boxed (not fought) the best he has in his career in the rematch - he is getting better, not worse, albeit in defeat.
Context is everything. Not many, including me before I looked it up, will remember the names Luigi Minchilo and Nino Gonzalez. But they were the 2 fighters Roberto Duran beat when he went W2-L3 - but the 3 he lost to were Ray Leonard, Wilfredo Benitez, and Kirkland Laing. Laing was not elite but Benitez is on the cusp of ATG and SRL is ATG.
Usyk is still writing his legacy but even as it stands now he is a shoe in for the HOF and may yet become an ATG.
* BTW - obviously I'm not comparing Joshua to Duran in terms of skills - the point is about context

This fight is really compelling in my eyes AJ has become a better boxer and a worse fighter over time and the opposite is true of Fury, it really should be a thrilling watch IF it happens which I'm still very sceptical about it taking place.
