What hurts more? A 4oz MMA gloves or an 8oz boxing glove with the knuckle padding pushing up against it.

Never been hit with an MMA glove but in my opinion, a boxing glove. They cover much more of a wider area and when the knuckle padding is pushing up against it, it becomes ridiculously firm. Almost like a rock.

MMA fighters don’t wear knuckle wraps from I’m awake of. Maybe I’m wrong. But if they don’t, maybe that too plays into the factor as the glove wouldn’t be as firm unless you have gorilla sized hands.

      They do wrap their hands.

They both hurt but the "hurt" is different.

        Can you explain please?
I feel like boxing gloves have more of a harder impact. Like getting a small brick thrown at you.

You can throw with more force with a boxing glove with the extra wrist support and padded glove .

An MMA glove you have watch how you punch it’s easier to break your hand with less padding and much less wrappings supporting the wrist , the MMA glove is much harder surface which it’s easier to cut the skin but the impact is a little less . I’ve been hit with just about everything even weight lifting gloves to those old school bag gloves with those metal bars in them . Also there’s different boxing glove brands and punchers gloves etc ……I’d give the edge to the boxing glove though .

It’s also very hard to close the fist all the way with wrappings under the MMA glove , personally I wouldn’t wear them and a quality weight lifting glove that firmly makes the fist stronger probably does the most damage if your a puncher as it’s like 1 ounce or so which still ironically still gives the 8 ounce boxing glove advantages over the 4 oz MMA glove as being smaller glove doesn’t always mean it produces more power .

This was really informative! Thank you for this! And yes, I agree with smaller doesn’t mean mean power. I always felt that boxing gloves just cause more damage. I’m sure MMA gloves hurt badly but an 8oz Cleto Reyes gloves to the face is no joke. I’ve been hit with one before and I was SHOCKED at how hard it felt.

Dont see the point of the question really, seems like a bait thread. Do either hit as hard as knees, elbows and shinbones? do either hurt as much as having an arm or leg cranked until something snaps?

MMA gloves hurt really bad and with hardly any force. You don't need any power to put someone out.

And just to add to this, the more knuckle contact you get, the more it's going to hurt. If you can concentrate force into a smaller area, then that's what causes the pain to increase. Bare knuckle will always hurt more than anything else. And as Juggernaut said, it tends to cut the skin easier. However, the worst cuts I've ever seen in a fight are in boxing. I don't have an explanation for that other than gloves can pull and tear the skin, especially around the eyes.
