Comments Thread For: Banks Wants Golovkin To Show All His Skills, Not Just Power, Against Canelo

Golovkin built his career as a hard-punching pressure fighter. He had a form of stalk-n-smash that had A-listed fighters dodging him for many years. I still think he could beat Canelo with that formula. Banks doesn’t think so. He’s trying to reconfigure GGG as a slickster. Color me doubtful.
And it’s unnecessary. If there’s a guy in this fight who can’t win from the back foot, it’s Canelo. A return to the hyper-aggressive Golovkin would have Canelo backing up and darting to the side all night long. And when you’re on the run, you’re subject to getting caught, knocked down, maybe out.
I’m definitely no fan of Canelo, but I do recognize that the man has some good moves. When it comes to carrying out a Mayweather-style contest of fighting in a phone booth and not getting hit, I just don’t see GGG as being really strong on that skill set. If that’s GGG’s strategy, I predict a points victory for Canelo.Comment

The answer to that question is yes. His stamina was impressive in the Murata fight, he threw almost 700 punches in less than 9 rounds as a 40 year old. Many of those were his patented jackhammer jabs.Comment

It's not but it's still better than Canelo's, which has gotten worse. Canelo hasn't thrown over 500 punches since the rematch. Golovkin threw 629 in almost 9 full rounds against Murata. Obviously Murata is easier to find that Alvarez but it shows he still has a pretty damn good work rate for his age.Comment

I agree with the above comments for the most part! Abel hurt GGG when he pushed him to be a meat headed fighter. I think Jonathan Banks will keep G in a better boxing rhythm than Abel. I think 2 things are in G’s favor; 1. He has been fighting less as he’s getting older.
2. He’s fighting more towards his natural weight. I don’t think G realized how bad the 160 cut, for his entire career, has been on his body. I think he will have a bit more stamina.
Can’t Wait!Comment
