That's a pretty good plan for Berlanga to grow the experience he missed out on during that streak of 16, first round knockout's.I don't see it. Edgar Berlanga was looked at as the next great Puerto Rican fighter but at this point I doubt he's even going to get the level of the next Juan Manuel Lopez.
1. He is very hittable.
2. He follows his opponents around the ring rather than sets traps.
3. He head hunts.
4. Not too quick in any way you can measure quickness.
5. Rough tactics make him lose his cool and do ****** crap that could get his disqualified.
His trainer is right on one thing though. He needs at least 3- 4 more fights before you even think about putting him in there against a top guy. First thing you do is match him up with someone whose know for rough if not downright dirty tactics like a Sakio Bika. That way you can see if he got his head on together and won't go all Cannibal when things get a little messy. Next you put him in there against someone its hard to look good against like an Issac Chilemba to see if he's learned anything about setting traps, working the body and being patient. Then you put him in there with someone who has power but is beatable to make sure he can fight aggressively but with discipline. Maybe David Lemieux or Daniel Jacobs. 4th fight....who knows. Maybe another young prospect. Maybe another veteran guy like a Gabe Rosado or an Andre Dirrell. If he gets passed these 4 guys then its time to just say **** it....let's see what we got.
Another thing that he has to do is get his head out of the( Hollywood glitz, and glamor) clouds, because he's a fighter not an actor.
If he can get away from those distraction's, and put in the serious training on learning fluid fast movement, and throwing more combination's.
Then he'll be on his way to having better inside the ring performance's, and at that point he can start growing a bigger fan base.
He has shown stamina, and heart in his last 4 fights, lets see how he does in December, and the 4 fights that he'll hopefully have in 2023.

The referee should have actually stopped the Nicholson fight in the last round, he was in serious trouble and had been dropped 4 times during the fight. This is how I rate his last 4 opponents Demond Nicholson B- (80) , Marcelo Coceres B= (82) , Steve Rolls B- (82) and finally Roamer Alexis Angulo B (83) .
Edgar Berlanga managed to get past all of em ( albeit barely) without much experience. His first 16 fights hurt his development more then it helped. IF and it's a BIG IF he's able to grow from these fights . He can still become a problem for some of the top guys .
On pure physical ability dude is a B (84) level fighter , let's see if in his next fights he's actually capable of improving. If not he will end up getting knocked out once he steps up to top 10 level fighter's. Chin is worrisome
If that fight had been a 10 rounder instead of an 8 rounder, Nicholson would have been stone cold knocked out by Berlanga.
All four of those wins were good wins, against good fighters, and Berlanga had to work hard in those fights to get the wins.
Berlanga has got to work on being more fluid in the ring, as it is he's too stiff, and muscle bound which hurts his ability to execute with the necessary effectiveness.
Also when your as muscle bound as Berlanga is, it diminishes his ability to absorb punches because of the bodies stiffness/rigidity.
His trainer making those outlandish statement's about Berlanga winning championship's from super middle weight to cruiser, is nothing more than empty hype.

Yes I've watched the fight I watched it at the time, it's not about the fight it's about the the way the post came across which seemed to imply Prince Naseem wouldn't be a champion if it wasn't for him fighting Lawal hence my response, Berlanga could fight an absolute pudding for a belt at Cruiserweight and still not win a belt.
P.S. I don't think Lawal was the champion either he was just a defence so the point is moot either way.Comment

Re: the bold. Not responsible for you getting triggered over not taking the time to read the post and try to understand, or at minimum, clarify.

By the way, let me educate you:
Said Lawal was a paper champion. Hamed took a belt off of him.It took only three right hands from Naz, a southpaw, to defeat his first challenger, WBC Featherweight champion Paul Said Lawal.
The point of the original post - and refuting what you know to be the truth is ****** - is that Bum****a could absolutely find a paper champion at 175. Thus refuting this statement that he'd "never" be champion. He's already proven that he can spark out bums quite easily.Comment

Except you're wrong Lawal never had a belt to lose to Hameed and even if he did you clearly have no understanding of what was happening with the WBO and other sanctioning bodies at the time.

And no one got "triggered" you idiot and FYI moron, 175 isn't cruiserweight which is exactly what we're talking about and literally in the thread title not LHW....Comment

Bum****a could take a paper title from any weight class from 175 up, which is the point.
Regardless, it's not worth the effort with you.Comment

Would love to see berlanga do something cause the natural power is impressive. Not sure if he needs a new trainer or what but he seems years away from being a top contender especially with dudes like bertebiev out there.Comment
