Comments Thread For: Robert Garcia: I Think Pitbull Cruz Could Beat Devin Haney

Mostly unknown in the public eye, Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz burst onto the scene after a positive showing against Gervonta Davis in December of 2021. On the night, despite being a heavy underdog and relatively late replacement for Rolando "Rolly" Romero, Cruz stepped into the spotlight against Davis and performed well.

I agree but Pitbull who has serious power will have to apply a tremendous amount of pressure nonstop. Haney has a very nice rhythm breaking jab and a one-two counter punching style. This fight is 50-50

Haney can't punch through a wet paper bag so it would be tough to keep him off of him.

A good jab, foot work movement and skills takes care of that. It's call the sweet science of boxing

Or it could be a lot like Mayweather/Maidana 1

But Haney ain't got the power let alone skill Floyd did.

I disagree with Robert. Haney would see those slow, wide haymaker punches coming from Pitbull Cruz a mile away?

He’ll never connect flush on Devin Haney. Cruz’ style is made to order for Haney’s style.

The key to defeating a counter puncher like Devin Haney is through infighting volume punching.

doubt it.. obviously will be the odd exception but in these type of match ups with american boxer v mexican brawler they usually end up being pretty one sided. would be a near shut out in a snoozer.

Pillow fisted but with superior skill vs basic and wild but with power and aggression.

I'd favour Haney but you couldnt count Cruz out in that fight. Especially with Haneys lack of power.

It's an interesting match up for sure. You got Haney who is a good boxer but lacks power and killer instinct, fights at a certain pace, then you have pit bull, who has power, is ferocious, and puts a lot of pressure. I see that pressure giving Haney lots of issues, we saw Linares hurt Haney and give him issues, pit bull is short and that might be a problem against a boxer with more reach like Haney, but then you think of short Gamboa giving Haney issues as well, so it makes me think that pit bull would trouble Haney. I would say 50/50 or maybe a slight advantage for Haney, but pit bull is right there, I doubt Bobby would pin Haney against Cruz unless he's a mandatory, I think Bob wants Haney to keep the title warm for Stevenson when he moves up, that was Bob's plan all along, if you think Bob thinks Haney is something special, your in for a surprise.....
