He's a counterpuncher. I think people had this idea that Ruiz was gonna pressure Ortiz and beat him into submission just because of the age difference, but that's not Ruiz at all. Ruiz is a counterpuncher facing another counterpuncher, and he's glad that he was able to knock Ortiz down without getting knocked down himself.

"BoxingScene.com has received confirmation that Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz has been suspended by the World Boxing Association - in connection to his failed drug test for a scheduled fight with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder."
"The dangerous puncher was the WBA's mandatory challenger to Anthony Joshua, who also holds the IBF, IBO world titles."
BoxingScene.com has received confirmation that Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz has been suspended by the World Boxing Association - in connection to his failed drug test for a scheduled fight with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Ortiz was set to challenge Wilder on November 4th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
He was Joshua's mandatory and chose to fight Wilder instead. He then failed a drug test leading up to the Wilder fight. Thanks for playing again, simpleton.Comment

Ruiz fought like a man trying to secure the bag. He knew he had the rounds in the bank and has a big money fight on the horizon with wilder (big IF he beats Helenius). He decided to take minimal risk and win his fight
People already writing Ruiz out against Wilder for some reason. Wilder has not fought since getting destroyed in 2 fights in a row. Boxing history is not kind to punchers that lose confidence. Ruiz is a very dangerous fight for Deontay and I hope Wilder wins his next fight to make it happen.

I can predict Wilder -Ruiz easily. Ruiz will be ahead about 7- 0 or 8-0 in rounds, than he will slow down in one moment he will miss his counters and Wilder will KO him.Comment

I'm not so sure Ruiz waits for you to come into range he also often waits for you to let your hands go before he let's his go...A recipe for disaster against Wilder assuming he's the same and it's a big assumption to be fair.Ruiz fought like a man trying to secure the bag. As you pointed out it's very possible he doesn't get through Helenius despite all his shortcomings one thing he isn't short of is power in both hands, he'll arguably be the biggest puncher Wilder has ever faced and that's coming off the back of two shellacking's.
But it will most certainly be an interesting fight should it happen but I'd prefer if Wilder was calling out AJ/Usyk then the Ruiz's of the world.Last edited by Boro; 09-04-2022, 11:43 PM.Comment

wilder’s punch resistance is not what it was. Ruiz hits harder than Fury

Agree something changed with Andy tho. The way he was going str8 back on defense. I don't know if he got tagged with something early or? But as you said he was super cautious. Something was funny about this fight. I thought he won but dint do himself any favors. I was surprised to see so much hate aimed at Ruiz on this site leading up to the fight. Curious how quickly he gets back in the ring.Strange fight... If it weren't for those knockdowns... Andy could well have lost this... That kind of inactivity will cost him against better conditioned fighters.. He was very cautious and I think he was rocked a bit. But his chin is solid. Deserved win but Andy has to improve if he has to challenge Wilder imoComment
