Nationality wasn't an issue when he fought Chavez Jr then.. Or Angulo, Gomez or any of the other 20 or so Mexican's he's fought.

Only one problem with taking it back, this is actually the second time he has said he wouldn't fight Mexicans. He said it about a year ago. Typically when someone does something twice, their intent is clear and they don't regret it at all.

If Canelo was a natural in Ramirez weight then he'd jump into it but Canelo has his own plans for his career just like any other person. Canelo should just stay near his weight and reign but he likes challenging and testing himself to be better and give fans great fights. Canelo also said people want to see him bruised beat up and he's not going to do that. He said he has to take care of his health and avoid getting injured. Very wise fighter in my opinion.

If he's scared of Ramirez weight-class, why is he talking Usyk and Heavyweights as "challenges". It makes no sense.

There is currently that many fighters at light heavyweight and supermiddleweight, why miss out this opportunity when he humiliated Chavez Jr and Alfonso Gomez into a downward spiral, at least Zurdo can bounce back if he loses.

It's not hard to see what canelo is trying to do. This is not about caring or supporting another mexican. He considers himself the top mexican superstar. He does not want to lose to another mexican and have them take his spot as the top mexican superstar. He has a good chance of losing to benavidez and zurdo. Those guys are not going to lay down and make it easy for him.

This is not hate but it's a sensible analysis. If Canelo loses to a Mexican, especially a good-looking one, he is immediately replaced as the darling of the sport. So the whole risk/reward thing is far worse v a Mexican.

Soon what? He's not gonna pass the torch to a fellow Mexican? He's gonna pass it to an AA, eastern European, Asian, or what? Or he's just gonna take the easy route as he always has to end his career?
