Comments Thread For: Canelo: I Still Feel I'm The Best; Name a Fighter Who Takes Risks Like Me - Nobody

A loss in his last outing in the ring has not dented the confidence of cash cow Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican superstar, in fact, feels he is still at the top of the boxing food chain. Last May, Alvarez came up short against Russia's Dmitry Bivol in their 175-pound title encounter in Las Vegas, with Bivol winning a unanimous decision.

Would've been riskier to rematch Bivol. Or to rematch Golovkin years ago rather than wait until now. Would be risky to be willing to face Mexicans too.

GGG for the upset! Probably not, but would be a shock for Canelo.

He's still one of the best, just not The best.

He does take big risks, and few do, can name Usyk and Crawford yes, and a few others like Haney.

I'm definitely liking this version of Canelo - post 155. Yes, the risks are weighed up .... but they are still risks. he waited on Golovkin and took on Kovalev after he looked vulnerable vs Ward and Eleider Alvarez and Bivol after he looked lacklustre against Richards.

But him going from 154 to 175 would be equivalent of Spence going to 168 - and he hasn't even gone up to 154 yet.

And the fact he wants to rematch Bivol is to be applauded. Mikey Garcia challenged himself moving up to fight Spence but he certainly didn't fancy the rematch.

My only issue would be not fighting other Mexicans. If Zurdo wins then fight him at 175 but slap a prohibitive rehydrate clause on that weight bully

I will agree, jumping weight and going up is something only Canelo and Usyk have done here lately, and regardless of losing or winning, you have to give props for taking the risk, and both deserve to be high on the P4P list for that reason. That said, since Canelo lost to Bivol, he needs to restore his career by beating GGG in good fashion, and fight the Mexicans he doesn't want to fight in Benavides and possibly Ramirez if he beats Bivol or Bivol if he wins, you can throw Charlo in there as well, if he does that, then he gets back up there.

The only risk that this guy has taken is the Bivol fight. He took it because he thought it was easier than Benavidez and Charlo. That cherry pick backfired
