Pulev vs Joshua was a very slow paced, tentative fight. Totally different fight than Joshua vs Usyk.
why couldn't AJ do this against Usyk the way he did Pulev

You can't be serious. Povetkin was a very good win for AJ, but he and Usyk are cut from very different cloths. Usyk is a slick lefty who spends pretty much 12 rounds at a time on the balls of his feet throwing punches from every conceivable (sometimes inconceivable) angle and moving laterally in and out of range. Povetkin, while technically sound, was an orthodox, flat footed, come-forward, pretty slow, power puncher.
If common opponents mean anything to you, Povetkin lost to AJ and went life and death to get a draw with Hunter. Usyk has thoroughly beaten AJ twice, and almost took Hunter's head off (yes it was at cruiser).
They couldn't be more different.

wasn't the hunter fight considered somewhat close (but still a clear Usyk win)

pulev is a 40 year old full size 240 pound heavyweight
usyk has way more stamina, movement and speed, they are nothing alike
real question is why AJ was afraid to get hit by light hitting cruiserweight Usyk, he fought scared both fights, chisora atleast wasnt afraid to press it and eat some to land his own. that is what AJ had to do and he was scared.Last edited by elfag; 12-11-2022, 02:09 PM.Comment

So true. A lot of times, a game plan is put together. Little things worked on and drilled. And sometimes it doesn’t work out.
You can notice it too. Boxers trying the same punch over and over again and just barely falling short.
Its more noticeable in style changes. I’ll give a perfect example. Joe Smith vs Beterbiev. Joe started out decent in the first round. He had a plan to box. You could tell. The very second he got caught clean and felt the power, he panicked and the gameplan went out the window. It was just a matter of time from that point on.Comment
