Thing is though, that ‘going for broke’ you speak of was just a flurry that was clearly timed for late in the fight after attempting to put the correct amount of bodywork in the bank.

Obviously it didn’t pay off, but the idea was that Usyk would be sufficiently worn down by this point. This was a far better idea than just going for broke from word go and hoping for the best. You need a plan.

From the few snippets we got in between rds,Robert was giving him sound advice and AJ actually looked pretty damn good in there considering he was fighting an all time great southpaw. He about did what all he could do but it wasn't and will never be good enough to beat someone as skilled as Usyk but that goes for every other boxer not named Fury. My only gripe with Robert, and he may actually have, but I would've liked for him to light a fire under Joshua's ass late in the fight ,tell him hes down on the cards and he needs to go for the KO as theres no moral victory in going another 12 with Usyk ffs.

The size advantage is overrated. There’s 3 inches between them max, and Usyk has more than enough technical ability to traverse this gap.

This was not AJ trying to box him, this was AJ’s game plan getting shifted from underneath him when Usyk begun attacking from different angles in round 3 and getting his brain sent into overdrive.

Surprised how many ppl don’t realise how hard it is to hit a moving, and constantly evolving target like this. The expectation that AJ should just hit him is flawed when (a) Usyk’s not there to be hit, and (b) AJ cannot unload the jab then return it to guard in time.

This is why he looked like he was “trying to box” - in reality, he just had his lead hand closer to Usyk’s face hoping to catch him.

When he started unloading on the body again, guess what? Usyk started slipping those shots as well! I would have lost my goddamn mind in that ring

Probably tightened up his game that's all and made him go for it at the point where he needed to at least Garcia didn't make him worse

Still guess it doesn't matter he faced a fighter who is better than him and has his number all day long

Garcia put up a solid game plan. I think AJ was giving in a bit mentally in the middle rounds, and Usyk just outhustled down the stretch

Hard to say for certain what the plan was but if doing what he did in the 8th and 9th, right out of the gate, was the plan, that was a good plan. Joshua waited till he was already tiring to do what he should have done while he was fresh.

Joshua was improved and I think I'd chalk those up to Garcia. I am curious to see if Joshua would continue to evolve if he has a few more camps with Garcia

The bodyshots were trademark Robert Garcia. And they clearly sapped Usyk.

Joshua simply didn't throw enough of them. But it's hard to turn a heavyweight into full on "Mexican style" in just one training camp.

AJ did better. Garcia only had 1 camp with AJ. He's a great coach, not a miracle worker.
