  • Comments Thread For: Holyfield Breaks Down Usyk-Joshua: May Not Be as Simple as Being More Aggressive For Joshua

There was a ripple of excitement when the champ walked into the Said Airlines Club in Jeddah where this week's open workout was held, but it was not Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua that were making people turn their heads, but Evander Holyfield.

Yup, there's hesitation or something. The hitch from trying adjust punches in mid flight, spli second pause at the wrong time when deciding 8f he will engage etc. Maybe a result of getting stopped by Ruiz. Didn't think the pre Ruiz AJ would beat Usyk, Gassiev fight was more telling to me than the Chisora fight.

AJ has the pieces, but it's putting it al together.

It has to be smart pressure and he needs to be throwing power punches to Usyk's hips, arms and elbows early, he doesn't necessarily need the KO, just hurt Usyk enough so he can't function as he would like for the rest of the fight - but Usyk is a damn good fighter and the favourite for a reason, the only question mark is that he's spent months in a war-torn country.

Early core, not just the midsection, attack, shoulders, hips, kidney shots in clinches, forearms Hopkins and Ward style, test his true endurance to pitty-pat for 12 rounds, all via EFFECTIVE aggression. Delusion if people think he is going in there and fight an Angulo Miadana or Santa Cruz Mexican Style fight or Robert Garcia is the fool I think he is. Usyk is not stopping AJ with the mentality of Vlad Whyte and Brezeale fights. If he finds this ungodly power, sample "C" needs to be tested too. He is not a power guy. If he was he would have stopped Chisora and old Witherspoon.

1st fight AJ hesitated because he couldn't process Usyk's movement fast enough. By the time he thought to punch, Usyk wasn't in the same place as he was a constant blur of movement.
AJ can do 2 things to be a quicker processor
a/ practice with faster fighters or even two fighters at the same time
b/ learn to read rhythm better - its bound to be the case that some of Usyk's movement has repeat patterns - recognise them and you know where Usyk will be a split second later.

If AJ hasn't improved his processing speed the fight will likely unfold the same way

I think Usyk is going to come forward himself and try to move Joshua back. Either way, we all know Usyk is planning on something different. Did anybody else notice we’ve seen zero training camp footage from Usyk? And at the open workout Usyk didn’t even hit pads? Anatoly Lomanchenko is a boxing genius, they aren’t going to be outthought.

I remember when Vlad was trying to rebuild his career after several losses. He went to Emanuel Steward to learn how to fight tall. There's no way a shorter man should be able to get past a taller man's jab. I wasn't really a fan of the jab jab clutch and lean all over your opponent, but it was effective. Lennox Lewis was the same. He lost twice to guys he shouldn't have lost to. He went to Steward. Joshua needs a guy to show him how to fight tall.

Probably right, and fighting tall will get him past 98% of the HW division and make 100% of his fights far less stressful than they need to be.

Still think it will end in defeat vs. Usyk and Fury, but hey
