Comments Thread For: Arsen Goulamirian Now Sole WBA Cruiserweight Titlist, Merhy Vacates After Passing On Rematch

Arsen Goulamirian has become the sole claimant to the WBA cruiserweight title. All he has to do now, is defend it. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Belgium's Ryad Merhy is no longer recognized as the WBA secondary cruiserweight titleholder, relinquishing such status on Friday. The development came as the deadline neared for Merhy and Goulamirian to meet in a title consolation clash per the WBA's title reduction policy.

He should be held to the same standard as other WBA champs and hold the belt hostage for years without concern of being stripped for not defending.

Funny how the WBA won’t consolidate their HW regular title held by Dubois. Their title reduction policy doesn’t exist at HW I guess…

That's because the WBA is a POS. The WBC is Jr. POS.

It's going to be interesting to see what they do at heavyweight, 168 and 147. They already made one accommodation to allow Spence to unify with Ugas. Stanionis was supposed to be next but it looks like they're giving Spence - Crawford a chance to materialise. If it doesn't then Spence - Stanionis should be ordered immediately.

Golovkin's been ordered to face Lara after the Canelo fight. It's less clear what they intend to do at 168 regardless who wins, but there's a 'regular' belt there to be consolidated.

It's unbelievable to me that Goulamirian still makes CW. The fact that he's hasn't fought in almost 3 years is also concerning to me. He's a massive Cruiserweight. Im no expert, but I've seen enough guys on the "sauce" to know when i see one.

How is Goulamirian even a champ, his last fight was like 3 years ago.

Does anyone know why he's been out for so long? Injury? COVID?
