dont think so ... duran was the only fighter able to beat a prime SRL and he won championships at heavier weight beyond hagler ...
probably we can asses the value of this fight better when everything has been said in done, and PBF, Mayweather are already at the HOF ...
as it is now, its just a good comeback win for mayweather and a reminder to everyone that his back..Comment

Duran had already moved up from WW at that time and been effective beyond. Was he even 30 when facing Hagler? Perhaps he was but only just if I remember correctly.
Add also the benefit of hindsight. Duran had several good wins at the weight in the years that followed. What's the likelyhood of JMM getting an effective campaign at WW? It's of course highly unlikely.Comment

Yea that's a fair point about JMM moving up chasing the big name fights rather than a case of physical development. I am sure the risk would have been worth the reward if he'd pulled it off. At the same time, we can't make different rules for Floyd, he was coming off a near 2 year absence and alot can happen in 2 years. For Floyd to come back as good as ever, personally I was very impressed. JMM didn't look weak at Welter, I think if Floyd had have performed below par last night JMM would have been right there to punish him.BS. JMM hasn't made the "transition from Lightweight to Welterweight", he's a lightweight fighting heavier because that's the way to the big names and the big money. I'm certainlly not 'moaning' about it though, that's up to him and I thought he aquitted himself pretty well. I wouldn't argue that Floyd is one of the best two fighters on the planet either, but nonetheless while JMM was still a creditable win Mayweather had the physical advantage and I'll be far more impressed if he can knock over Mosley and the winner of Pacquiao v. Cotto. Pacquiao, incidently, HAS made that transition you are talking about although whether that will carry up to WW remains to be seen. We can only hope it does; Mayweather v. Pacquiao will be one of the biggest fights ever, possibly THE biggest outside HW.
Of course, I'd love to see the Mosley fight. Question is, would that be a legit win or what reasons are the there to discredit that victory should it happen? Personally I think Shane is probably a more dangerous option than Pacquiao. I want to see both of those fights. For the record, I am not a Floyd "nuthugger", I am not even really a fan of his. My favourite fighters are Danny Williams, Carl Froch, David Haye and... Steven Luevano.Comment

anyway, PBF is back & he needs not to meddle in the lower weight classes... he should be taking care of his own weight class & maybe challenge himself against the guys @ 154-160...Comment

Did you all know that PBF was 6 inches taller and outweighed Marquez by almost 40 pounds?
You didn't. Open your eyes. It's as clear as day. Those fights at lightweight for Floyd? An illusion; actually a stunt double fighting in his place those years ago.
Floyd is a legit middleweight; ya heard?Comment

Thanks Talip. Let's just be happy that Floyd is back and this tune-up is over with. What really matters is what he does next.
I hope for Shane and then the Cotto-Pac winner.Comment
