Comments Thread For: Benn: Thurman May As Well Retire; Can't Blame Him For Not Wanting To Fight

Conor Benn does not begrudge Keith Thurman for not necessarily jumping at the chance to swap punches in the ring together. The rising welterweight contender from Essex, England, conceded that the risk-reward calculus as it pertains to himself does not make sense for a proven, former champion like Thurman. The native of Clearwater, Florida, has long been mentioned by Benn and his promoter Eddie Hearn as a top opponent but Thurman himself has rarely ever mentioned the Brit.

He should call out Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz, not an old past prime Thurman.

Top prospects rarely call eachother nowadays, the path to go towards a shot at the championship is to fight ex-champions. Have Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz call eachother out?

Not sure who fights who now. But I do not blame Benn at all. Bigger money in fighting Thurman.

Thurman in the UK? Not even Fury wants UK judges, and Hearn in his life? One mil isn't enough.

Thurman would be Benn. Thurman only needs to perform 75% of his best and he wins.

True, but never been fully convinced he’s had a problem with UK judges due to bias or what have you, more that he’s not been wanting to deal with boxing bureauc**** on this side of the Atlantic since he got done by the BBB of C for steroids.

Having said that, I’m not even sure judging over here is any more biased than hometown judging anywhere.

One thing for sure is that UK refs will stop a fight the second someone takes a combination up faints the ropes. Pathetic stuff

Benn’s right about one thing: all this talk about fighters being “scared” is ****** and doesn’t make sense.

When fights don’t happen, normally it’s the management/ promotional/ network being commercially “scared”, or the fighter thinking it’s not worth financially worth it. But obviously, the fighter’s sparred with almost everyone in and even outside their weight class, so…

One of the complaints is, the ref will let the hometown hero soldier on through a helllacious beating. Warrington, Mitchell, and others. The corner throws in the towel, and the ref throws it back out. The quick stop is for the imports.
