A profitable PPV doesnt take away resources, it creates them. Showtime will turn a profit on the event, and no money will come from their operating budget. As the lead distributor, they are probably taking a 5%-7.5% taste on the event. And theres no way they would do a high enough guarantee to Paul to risk losing any money.

It’s a bit confusing to me that people who are against all the attention this is getting are commenting on articles about it. I’m not hip to the way all this works, but I’m pretty sure the analysts call this “engagement”, which contributes to the further publishing of articles and general promotion of Jake Paul.

Don’t worry though, in the very near future the haters will almost certainly get to see Jake get pummeled and or KTFO’d. And yes, it will be funny.

To think there are people here who find fault with ANYONE ELSE is hilarious. As if Jr was bullied into signing that contract.

They use resources prior to the event to air programming marketing the fight. I would prefer they instead use those resources to, for example, air a regular Friday night SHOBox card.

While I’m sure additional resources are created on the back end, unless those resources go to developing young/ new talent, it doesn’t help.

Worse, they are used for fights like Thurman/Barrios or others that surely lose money.

Amazing ( maybe pathetic is a better word) that on this site- diehard boxing fans- that Jake Paul and Floyd’s exhibitions gets more traffic than stories about current top 5-10 p4p boxers.

I personally don’t care for the celebrity fights either, but I’ve come to the realization that Jakes goofy a$$ is bringing in attention from other viewers. I was looking forward to Jr spanking his a$$ though.
I agree that Showtime could put the same, or more, resources into good fights with said Pros. I am ultimately afraid of this sport’s demise. I boxed as an amateur and my son is on the same course. It’s amazing how much the sport has changed since the 90’s. Sho does need to be putting in some resources to building up some more names. I’m the past they have done so, ultimately I feel like they did it in competition with HBO, now they have no premium network rival. Dead Zone and ESPN are on different levels than what we would expect out of Sho!
