  • Comments Thread For: Mayer on Baumgardner: She's Getting The Biggest Payday Of Her Life After Doing Nothing For The Sport

Mikaela Mayer believes Alycia Baumgardner is riding on the coattails of her contemporaries' achievements. Mayer, the 32-year-old Californian and IBF, WBO women's 130-pound titlist, will square off against Baumgardner, the 28-year-old WBC titlist from Michigan, in a junior lightweight unification fight Sept. 10 at the O2 Arena in London. The fight will support the women's middleweight title unification main event between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall.

Mayer has really started to say some things that come off poorly...she seems to believe all the hype that ESPN puts has heaped on her.

I haven't heard Baumgardner say anything disrespectful or arrogant. I'd also remind Mayer that one of the reasons why this fight is getting attention is the sensational highlight reel KO that Alycia produced against Teri Harper.

As good as an opponent Hamadouche was, that buildup didn't have anywhere near the buzz that this fight has...

To be fair, Baumgarder did say she would dogwalk Mayer.
Bit I take offense to Mayer putting herself in the same sentence as Katie Taylor and Clarissa Shields like she didn't just get here a few fights ago.
Let's keep it real, Katie and Clarissa are Hall of Famers the next morning if they drop dead tonight.
Mayer is blazing but she ain't there yet.
And while Mayer may have had the fight if the year last year,
Baumgarder had the clear knockout of the year in 2021.

I don't know about the fans take regarding Mayer's demeaning comments. Although I favor Mikaela Mayer over Alycia Baumgardner, I find that Baumgardner's upset over 'Fish & and Chips' Terri Harper, to be more memorable for women's boxing than anything Mayer has produced in the ring.

Then you have to give Baumgardner even more credit for accepting another great challenge ( again ) in a IBF-WBC-WBO unifcation with Mikaela Mayer, of course Alycia deserves a bag.

Yeah and the scorecards in the hamoudouce fight were horrendous. Not saying mayer didn't win but it was alot more competitive and close then the judges had it. Think one judge had it 100-90 to mayer which was shocking. I had it 6-4 mayer could even argue 5-5 each. But yeah isn't that what boxings about fighters bursting on the scene after not having a platform and being unknown then having a great breakout performance. Mayer has had the platform since day one and none of her fights have I ever been Wowed by her she's got skills but just not entertaining even tho the hamoudouce was a fun fight I'll give her that was just ruined by the scoring.

but alycia is explosive and athletic and has more of a fan friendly style so she's getting love and mayer probaly feels like she should be getting alot more then she is. But fans will always gravitate more to someone who's gonna deliver entertainment it's just like any sport. You're always gonna watch a team or whatever who play exciting games over the team that is just methodical not saying you can't appreciate it but it's not gonna get you excited

Yeah she probaly just feels irked that alycia isn't giving her the respect she maybe wants but it's a fight build so baumgardner is gonna talk her ****. But mayer isn't in the same category as Taylor/sheilds I mean Taylor just did MSG and is a huge name and role model in her country. Where as mayer isn't that level of popular in terms of female boxing she's not a bad fighter she's a good fighter but she ain't Taylor or Shields good

I’d crawl 5 miles through barbed wire to a pay phone just to hear Mayer fart

You’re right, and she might even believe what she’s saying, but as usual, I think she (like most boxers) is probably chatting **** to sell
