For Canelo It was a perfect storm of moving too much up in weight, fighting against a bad style matchup, and spending too much time on the golf course.

He'll have to make some serious changes for the rematch if he hopes to be able to win it. First and foremost he has to find a solution for the footwork issue.

That's hilarious! If Bivol is nothing special, and Golovkin is a bum (not saying you said that about GGG, but that's the narrative from Canelo fangirls) then what does that make Canelo?

Bivol just has better footwork that comes from that amateur background. People forget Kovalev was outboxing Canelo at 175 too just he got caught and is more chinny than Bivol. Bivol just boxed Canelo plain and simple doesn't matter if he golfed before or not. Bivol is still a basic puncher he doesn't have much variety but his jab is excellent, he has a textbook right and he maintains distance perfectly.

Unless Canelo can hurt him I don't see him outboxing him his only chance is a stoppage and Bivol never seemed bothered by any punch Canelo had. The only difference that can be done is if Canelo improves his stamina that way he can increase his punch output. He was gassed in there especially in the later rounds and if he would've got in the inside an been a little more aggressive who knows.

Bivol's movement is more like Pacquiao tbh.

Really brillliant analysis. Seen few put it more succinctly on here. Cánelo’s a top boxer but Bivol’s amateur schooling had him on the carousel all night, and will do again.

          I was dizzy watching.

I doubt they pick up on this

Great spot. I’ve noted that Canelo often gets a pass for a square stance that other fighters don’t get.

He’s had less criticism because he often throws very effective left body shots from that stance, and obviously rarely loses, but as you’ve pointed out, he’s come up short against a real dog.

““Unless Canelo changes trainers, unless he changes trainers and he gets better, and his footwork [improves, he won’t beat Bivol],” De La Hoya said.“

DLH switched trainers like 20 times and it never helped him. He changed trainers like underwear. Did nothing for him. Camelo leaving Chepo will not help.

This, x 1000. This here is the plain truth of the matter. Other fighters have schooled him and others have either fought even, lost slightly, or were robbed by the boxing establishment.

Chepo is truly one of the most overrated trainers in history. When Canelo fades from the scene so will that fella

It seems oscar still hurt since his former golden boy/cashcow left him, canelo being able to beat bivol in rematch doesn't have to do with changing trainers ,ginger can only beat bivol if he does a full camp focused on bivol fight style no golfing bs nor distractions, bivol is a pretty good fighter but not unbeatable ,ginger boy skilled enough to pull it off
