    Jack Dempsey selling a million dollars' worth of tickets against Carpentier in 1921 is pretty impressive.

        Mayweather made the most.

        Though I suspect if someone like a prime Mike Tyson was around today he would be making $50-60m per fight quite easily.

          Good point! I'd go further and say that Mike's PPV numbers may not be as great as Floyd's....even in today's market. Why? Mike's fight were literally 1 round...that same 1 round can be reposted on social media in this microwave generation where people watch 30 second clips, drops their unwarranted opinions, and they just go about life.

          Floyd on the other hand....people wanted to see him lose, so they'd pay money with bated breath in hopes of something going wrong for him. Mike's opponents were mostly afraid of him and folks just wanted to see how long they'd last- knowing they'd lose anyway. Not many were waiting to see Mike lose.

              Oscar De La Hoya changed the game as far as non heavyweights selling PPV fights. People forget how big of a mainstream star he was in the mid 90’s to the early 2000’s.
              He set the stage for guys like Mayweather/Pacquiao, Canelo to make huge PPV money which before was only for big heavyweight fights like Tyson.

                There was SRL before ODLH.

                SRL --> ODLH --> May --> Nelo

                  Floyd.

                  Ali and Tyson were bigger stars but they didnt generate the PPV revenue and live gates Floyd did, different times.

                    Mayweather and it's not a debate. It's an actual fact.

                    Most ppvs sold
                    Biggest guaranteed purse ever

                    The man made a guarantee of 120 million against pacquiao before any ppv was sold.
