Comments Thread For: Oleksandr Usyk Opens Up About Defending Ukraine During War: 'I Was Praying Not To Be Killed'

Oleksandr Usyk has had to embrace the highest of highs and the lowest of lows over the last year. In September, he decisively beat Anthony Joshua via unanimous decision to claim four versions of the heavyweight title.

I understand what he's getting at but if you're not prepared to shoot or to be shot at then there's almost no point in defending. You can't play war, if you approach it in a half hearted mind state it won't end well.

True, but I think Usyk is perfectly capable of doing what must be done - he just wishes he wouldn´t have to.

          Weirdest war going this one.

Every Tom **** and Harry from Bono to Bojo has turned up for a cup of tea and a stroll with zwlsnsky in the middle of this under siege Warzone, without any bullet proof vests or anything. Very odd. I heard Richard branson is set to pop in next.

Ya exactly. But like half the soldiers there, they didn't choose to be a soldier. They were forced. Russia gets flack for pushing minors into an army. Ukraine doesn't for separating fathers from their children.

I’ve followed Usyk since the Amateurs, he’s always been a unique & special character. Winning the heavyweight title against Joshua alongside his amateur and cruiserweight achievements should be enough to put him in the hall of fame. Winning the rematch, with the background of the war in Ukraine (and his involvement in it), tips him over as someone that transcends the sport. A story fit for a movie, and an absolute hero in my eyes.

Lmfao you must be joking. He's getting 30 mil to have a fight against a guy he beat easily in the desert. The guys on the front line are the heroes not this dude.

The hyperbole around this Usyk character has become nauseating, and frankly, I can't wait to see him get knocked the **** out.

Love the comment section. Truly do. I dig how there is a growing number of people, sitting in front of the computers in the safety of their small little isolated world, passing judgment on what Usyk should or should not do or how honest he is being.

Whatever. It is obvious Usyk will be Usyk, so everyone else just do you. He will use what his country is going through to focus and motivate himself, and will use his stage to talk up what his country is going through because he can. As for his money for this fight, he has earned it. What he will do with it is up to him. But from what he has shown my bet is a huge portion of it will help his fellow countrymen. But if he chooses to buy 30 million dollars worth of hats and snack cakes, so what? Still his money.

This will be what a huge portion of this fight will be about. There will be countless articles on it and reporters all over Joshua to comment on it as well. From here on out, i will only refer to it as another motivating factor as to why I think Usyk wins the rematch and will otherwise focus on the sport. Just think it is silly to have keyboard warriors pass judgment on anyone else.

Ahh, ********. Now suddenly Cossacks are cool after always being "barbaric Anti Semites" and of course ****'s will continue to be cool until this is over then, naturally, as is traditional, all Slavs, Orthodox people (including Ukrainians!) and the Cossacks and ****'s will all go back to being slime in the western media.

I don't have any sympathy for them; as you sew, so shall you reap. Side with Western ******** and receive your reward fools.
