Roy Jones Jr career was a disgraceful farce!

His 10 year reign as p4p king was an absolute farce - where year after year, he avoided taking on the biggest challenges and went for the safe, easy option every single time.
Let's take a look at the timeline.

    1993
Roy Jones beats a green Hopkins (which later becomes his 2nd best win of his whole career).
He becomes one of the best middleweights in the world- the others being Julian Jackson, McClellan, John David Jackson, Kalambay, Reggie Johnson
Jones fights Malinga, Chirino (lol), Garcia (lol), Tate (lol) avoiding all of the above.

    And now the fun starts!

Jones's P4P career went as follows:
    1994
Beat Toney for SMW title. Great win.

    1995
Benn is WBC SMW champ and knocks out McClellan.
Steve Collins is WBO SMW champ
Frankie Liles beat Michael Nunn end of 94 and is WBA Champ
Jones fight Antoine Byrd (lol), Vinny Pazienza (lol) and Tony Thornton (lol)

    1996
    Collins is WBO SMW Champ
    Benn is WBC SMW Champ
Jones fights old Mike McCallum, Eric Lucas (lol), Merqui Sosa (lol), Byron Brannon (lol)

    1997
Collins has beaten Benn twice and is still WBO SMW champ
Jones fights Montell Griffin (loses by DQ) and rematches him

    1998
Hopkins enters prime and is a dominant MW champ with 7 defenses by now
Jones fights old Virgil Hill, Lou Del Valle (lol), Otis Grant (lol)

    1999
Dariusz Michaelczewski is undefeated, unified, lineal LHW champ
Hopkins continues to dominate at middleweight
Jones fights old Reggie Johnson, Richard Frazier (lol)

    2000
Dariusz Michaelczewski is still undefeated, unified, lineal LHW champ
At this point, Joe Calzaghe is an undefeated SMW champ with about 5 defenses under his belt
Hopkins continues to dominate at middleweight
Jones fights David Telesco (lol), Richard Hall (lol), Eric Harding (lol)

    2001
Bernard Hopkins unifies, rises the P4P ranking and beats Trinidad
Dariusz Michaelczewski is still undefeated, unified, lineal LHW champ
Joe Calzaghe is still undefeated SMW champ
Jones fights Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Derick Harmon (lol)

    2002
Bernard Hopkins is top 5 P4P
Dariusz Michaelczewski is still undefeated, unified, lineal LHW champ
Joe Calzaghe is undefeated long reigning SMW champ
Jones fights Glen Kelly (lol), Clinton Woods (lol)

    2003
Lennox Lewis is world heavyweight champ
Vasilly Jirov is undefeated cruiserweight champ
Dariusz Michaelczewski is still undefeated, unified, lineal LHW champ
Joe Calzaghe is undefeated long reigning SMW champ
Jones fights John Ruiz (absolute ****ing lol)

    2004
Lennox Lewis is world heavyweight champ
    James Toney is cruiserweight champ
Dariusz Michaelczewski is still undefeated, unified, lineal LHW champ
Joe Calzaghe is undefeated long reigning SMW champ
Jones fights Tarver and gets ****ing bullied, and gets himself chinned in the rematch.

There you have it. 10 years of epic ****housery and the worst "P4P" reign ever.

He then went on to get chinned by Johnson, lose to Tarver again, and then later in his career lost to Hopkins, Calzaghe, Green Lebedev and Maccarinelli

Now this absolute jaffa cake is crying in interviews about not getting the same respect as Robinson and Ali :lol::lol:

To compare - Mayweather (who I ****ing hate) after becoming p4p#1 beat Judah, De La Hoya, Marquez, Mosley, Cotto, Conelo amonst others.

Jones beat an old Virgil Hill and made a rap song about it. And that was about it.

            Just a few points.

Jones vs Benn was lined up after Benn beat McClellan but Benn was going through a divorce and issues with his promoter.
I also think it's fair to say that Nigel was affected by the McClellan fight.

Jones vs Collins had been agreed but Collins had some kind of heart murmur during training and promptly retired.

Hopkins never moved up to 168 while Jones was there and wanted 50/50 against the P4P leader who'd already beaten him.

Calzaghe never chased Jones while he was in his pomp, stating in an interview that "he's (Jones) earned the right to choose".
His father Enzo called for the fight to be in the UK, which was a non starter at that time.

A fight with Dariusz would have made most sense in Germany but again, Roy wasn't going to travel in those days and there wasn't enough pressure on him to do so.
For all the lineal claims, Roy was very much "the man".

The cruiserweight division held less interest back then than it does today and Jones already beaten Toney. I don't recall much clamour for a rematch but I'll happily stand corrected.

Ruiz was naked opportunism. Roy was never going to fight Lennox.

The guy was monster.....but he not ranked as high due to lack of opposition which idk who to blame.

But he deserves his current status in boxing.

You implying he was a fraud or that he deserves criticism for not taking fights out the country etc?

...... I'ma have to look in the OP....

Roy Jones was a hypejob without textbook skills. When his speed gone, pathetic KO losses came. A truly skilled fighter should be tough even at low pace.

Well you’re right in that regard with the skills.

Jones style aged soooooo bad hahahaha.

I can’t think of another boxer who was at the very top, who suffered so many bad KOs.

He really should’ve changed his style or done something different later in his career.

Then the cherry on top was losing to Mike Tyson.

There are present day MFers (the entire HW div) getting the ATG treatment with far worse credentials.
A guy like Bud can get p4p mention because of some lame ass ''eye test "
Pac's resume is shady AF but he's #3ATG.
Mike Tyson is a legend for crushing bums and verbally raping reporters.

Who in the hell would have beaten prime RJJ
